[applause] >> supervisor mandelman: good morning, everybody. this is such a wonderful morning and as i look out at this crowd of gorgeous people who are doing amazing things in our city for so many causes and communities. i see race bannon. race always deserves a round of applause. [applause] san francisco is a city that does not forget its history. we build on our history. we celebrate our history and make new things happen next to old things and that is part of the magic of the city. and i'm so pleased that this plaza is -- as the mayor said, it took a little longer than would have been ideal, but it is now finally happening. i want to say just a few -- maybe a year ago, or a couple of years ago, we were worried about whether there even would be an eagle, right? more than a few years ago, but the community came together and city hall responded and now not only is the eagle still here, it's still a place to enjoy on sunday afternoons and all the time. and thank you so much, lex and m

[laughter] so many of you know me. some of you have read about me. i have a reputation. that i've earned and i'm proud of. [laughter] >> some of it's true! >> and most of it's true. [laughter] so i've wanted this day to happen for over 10 years and almost everybody at city hall knows about it because it is all i talk about. for 10 years. i'm going to get that flag back one day. i'm getting that name back one day. and so credit needs to go where credit is due. and, you know, really want to thank the workers of veritas who helped put this together. you know, especially danielle washington. >> whew! . >> supervisor mandelman: thank you, miss green. director rafael. >> so thank you. and to wrap up a couple thoughts -- you -- i think that anyone who listened to this presentation would be left with understanding that city staff, city departments, elected officials, are all fully committed and understand the importance of our work. so i want to thank you for giving us the opportunity for sharing our thoughts with you, whether it's the department of public health, the airport, the m.t.a., the planning department, the p.u.c., we are all here because we believe that this is the most important work. when we look at what we need to do as a city, and the city staff going forward, we start with the acceleration and the focus that this hearing has offered us. and we understand that our first task is to update the underpinning policies that focus our attention and set our goals. those are in statute and they're chapter 9 of the environment code. so we will be working in the next few months through next year to update chapter 9. and we will come back too with those proposals.
