"eyewitness news" reporter, rahel solomon at police headquarters with more on this developing story. rahel? >> reporter: well, erika, this afternoon police tell me the victim was a 47 year old father, simply on his way to work, when he was stabbed. take a look, this is video from the scene earlier t appears to show the victim's headphones, police say, he was stabbed once in the left side of his chest and transport today hahnemann hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 7:10 this morning. police have not released the victim's name. they say they're still in the process of trying to notify his family. at this point no one is in custody. but police say they are canvassing the area, surveillance pictures will help them identify a suspect. >> i have detectives out there now, i'm not going to endorse, there is a lot of surveillance video in the area, i'm sure, pretty positive, we will capture the suspect on video and hopefully hager that's very quick way. >> reporter: and there is also some construction happening, just beside the incident. earlier today i spoke with some of the worke

families is what attracted pope francis to philadelphia this weekend, "eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live for us at the pennsylvania convention center as officials look back on successful celebration. rahel, tell us about it. >> reporter: pat, good afternoon, you know, we actually just moved to city hall. good afternoon to you, now, i can tell you during this press conference, this was real a opportunity for the archdioces to speak and reflect back on the world meeting of families. so this weekend's papal visit, and for the most part it was overwhelmingly positive. but at one point things did become a little tense. today at the convention center little earlier during the press conference, philadelphia archbishop charles chaput said the pope enjoyed his trip to philadelphia, was very impressed by the city's people. chaput addressed concerns about the the long security lins and actually said some of his friends also could not get in until the end of mass. he did not, however, criticize the heavy security for the pope's trip. he said it is just a reflection of the post 9/11 world we

"eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live outside school district headquarters to explain, rahel. >> reporter: jessica, those parents and child care concerns because some parents may be working, some students are out of school but the school district of philadelphia told me today that ultimately the decision to close was made out of traffic concerns and hopefully that decision convenient for parents and staff. it was practically speaking more like friday for students in the philadelphia school district. the districts are now closed through tuesday morning. wednesday is the yom kippur, thursday, friday, monday it is off for the papal visit. the school district says street closures prompted the decision. >> our big challenge is to get our students and our staff into schools. >> reporter: some private schools like west philly's children's community school are partially opened but they tell me about half of the students won't be showing up. students like little adrian who will be staying in delaware. >> safety and whatnot is our top concern but for a lot of people there is contingenc

but our colleague rahel solomon is down in center city. ith her, how are things going, rahel? >> reporter: you know who's not nervous? all of these folks here. everyone seems to be in such a good mood. still, we reported earlier that things were moving smoothly right now, seems to be the same. you can see all of these beautiful smiling faces, so many people have been going through this checkpoint here, 15th and cherry where you can see -- just in front of us, we have a contact there, one of those folks who is can you remember clicking as everyone walks through, and she tells us, i'm about 30 minutes ago, about 3200 people from this morning, quite a few people. if we can push through past the checkpoint, you can see even more people. this is what will meet these crowds once they get through the checkpoints, so many people here on the parkway for their chance to meet, of course, and to see pope francis just a moment toss occasion for so many people. we've been talking to people for last couple hours in this line. people say they're from as fa

"eyewitness news" reporter rahel solomon is live at northwest detectives with more on this story, rahel. >> reporter: jessica, owner of the nail salon tells me not only did this suspect wait inside of her shop for 20 minutes before his manager, even insist to his manager before robbing her shop and now she says she hopes police make an arrest before he has a chance to do this all over again. business tuesday was unusually slow, and rockland nails. according to the owner it has been this way since sunday evening when police say this man came in for a manicure. she asked, him to pay and he said yes, yes, yes, and he bent down and then he pulled out his guns. >> reporter: police say his weapon was an apparent sawed off shotgun. surveillance video shows one terrified worker tried to seek cover behind a chair as the incident unfolds. >> he pointed it at us, and told the rest of the workers to go in the back. >> reporter: the owner says that in one was hurt and she's glad that everyone is okay but the incident has shaken up her customers. so tuesday she's having a new security system put in.
