you ever be wondering about a rainbow? why do you get all the colors in a rainbow? to understand a rainbow, first of all, you got to understand a prism. you know if a white light comes in a prism, you get different refractions? different colors refracted different amounts. it turns out you get red here maybe, green here, and blue here and sort of like that. and you guys know with a prism you can get a nice, nice spectrum. we call it a rainbow in a loose sense, yeah? but you get that in the sky too, why? well, it turns out in the sky, rather than have prisms, you have little spherical drops and those little spherical drops sort of like this. and what happens there, sunlight coming in, the white light from the sun comes in, refracts, boom, makes one reflection and then another refraction and out here would come like, red. and some bends a little differently, comes out here, this would be maybe violet. and it turns out you've got an angle between here and here of, i think it's 40 degrees for the violet. and here and here 42 degrees for the red, early printings of the b

begin with r and with b. - rainbow. - a rainbow. and that rainbow is another word for spectral-- spectrum of colors, yeah? and this will give us spectrum of colors too. it turns out it will give a spectrum of colors because it turns out different colors of light will travel at different speeds-- right. --through this material or any material. did you guys know the speed of light is less in glass and water than it is in air? and how come the light slows down when it gets to the glass or when it gets to the water or anything? and here's another thing. this used to bother me years ago. if the light slows down when it gets in the glass, how's it speed up when it comes out the other side? it seemed if you want to get light to slow down, get it on a piece of glass plates and at the end, you can just catch it in a bucket. that keep dribbling down, yeah? but how does the light speed up again? how does light get through glass? let me give you a little scenario of something like how that works. light is a throbbing spark of electromagnetic en

so we are continuing to see some showers into the afternoon and probably a couple of rainbows, too. there's still a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm. tonight you will see a lot of clouds, the possibility of a few more showers and another storm coming our way for the weekend. that storm door is open now that trough continues along the west coast so we have a lot of moisture off the coastline that we are bringing in more showers as we head in toward tonight and probably into tomorrow, as well. around the state if you are traveling, completely different day today with the showers showing up outside. lots of snow in the high country maybe one to two feet of snow by the time we add things up by tomorrow afternoon. snow level running at about 5,000 feet. so yeah, you could see two to four inches of snow down to lake level. let's time it out into the afternoon. the showers becoming more widely scattered outside. a couple of breaks in between with some sunshine. and then as we look toward tomorrow morning, maybe a few more showers early on for the commute tomorrow. and then the mid
