here comes the rainfall. you see it building to the north places like vallejo and santa rosa, even half moon bay picking up some showers. clearlake ukiah, getting rainfall early this evening and windsor. one heavier cell advancing before everything out toward half moon bay and pacifica. you see that yellow there, that would be some moderate rainfall. so we have rain coming, plenty more up to our north. that all has to work through the bay area over the next several hours. so what change? why are we going to rainfall? that ridge of high pressure that was blocking every storm from making it here was our enemy, now it's our friend because it's moved to a place that actually will carry the storms right into northern california and this first wave of rainfall that comes through tonight and tomorrow is going to give us a decent amount of rain everywhere in the bay area, predicted to get more than half inch of rain. the rain hitting the north bay this evening. rain throughout the day tomorrow, a brief break early fr

as for how much rainfall in total, by the time you wake up on saturday morning, look at these rainfalls, not a drought ender but it will be a drought helper for all of us. north bay up to 3." east bay in concord and livermore, up to 2." south bay missed it two weeks ago, you're going to get it this time. san jose up to 2" of rainfall for you. san francisco, san mateo county, burlingame, you're going to get up to 2." highest rainfall totals in the santa cruz mountains because of the orographic lift up to 3." it starts tomorrow morning but i think the commute will be dry. the steady rain will move in, in time for the wednesday evening commute. so this time tomorrow. winds will gust 20 to 35 miles per hour. so it will be windy. and there's a slight thunderstorm risk both tomorrow and friday. highs tomorrow doesn't really matter because it will be raining, but here they are, san jose 63, wet, windy tomorrow especially tomorrow evening. break between storms on thursday a few showers that's it. friday here comes the next round, although rain on friday will be the weaker storm. saturday morni

so the heaviest rainfall is going to get here. the overnight hours of friday, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, and likely a heavy zone of rainfall continuing through friday. as we head throughout saturday, we'll see this rainfall begin to exit parts of the bay area. so friday looks very wet for us. we've been tracking the wind here across the bay. i want to get you the wind cast. throughout tomorrow, it's going to be coming down, winds 10 to 15 miles per hour. then throughout friday morning, again, as that next storm system lines up, we'll see areas at the coastline that could see winds top 50 miles per hour. again, that combined with the rainfall is why i'm so concerned with friday's storm and the potential of more power outages, and more trees coming down. so we could see a repeat performance throughout friday. on your forecast for thursday, a few breaks of sunshine in here by the afternoon. 63 in san jose. 62 in belmont. 61 right across here. north bay, trivalley, we're not going to see temperatures fluctuate too much, 60 to 64 degrees. a few

that bringing rain to the bay area heavy rainfall with a subtropical tap meaning rainfall amounts could where the jet stream sets up in the north bay. the high country 3 to 5" of snow expected today, winter weather advisories there, snow level at 3,000 feet. grab the chains there. the system will move through early on this morning then taper off scattered showers through the middle of the day and drying out into the afternoon. thigh rage shifts further north in parts of the north bay and the rest of us going to see passing clouds. temperatures are going to stay on the cool side. numbers mainly in the 50s outside. toward the next few we'll dry things out into friday. by saturday and sunday depending where the jet stream sets up that is the most important thing, that will determine where the heavy rainfall is showers into month and by tuesday and wednesday, we're dry. the good news is because we have been in the drought, i think all the major rivers will stay within their banks. there is a possibility of localized flooding until the small creeks and the roads. >> usually we dread rainy da

sfo reports of rainfall at this moment.st features rain will spread widely tonight and will be wet for morning commute and no doubt will be a slow morning commute. then another storm coming this weekend. that is expected to be a soaker let's pull back and give you a sat late image of approaching system bringing us a current batch of rainfall. providing rain throughout overnight hours there is a second storm mentioned coming in this evening and heavier storms is so we have a couple doses coming our way. at 7:00 this evening, during overnight hours, we'll see rain spreading all parts of the bay area, 5:00 in the morning will be steady rainfall. pockets of moderate rain in places continuing throughout much of the morning. even at 10:00 in the morning we'll have wide spread rainfall foremost of the bay area. but then, later in the day a break up into pockets of showers, that will last into late night hours tomorrow night. and by 10:00 tomorrow night, we expect to see rainfall totals up to and an inch and a quarter up to an inch

. >> we're tracking the rainfall totals. impressive. over the past 24 hours, 2 to 3 inches across the north bay hills. sebastopol 3.14. a lot less for the south bay. there's a lot more rainfall on the way. we'll get a look at the radar now. a small break in the north bay but a heavier batch developing offshore beginning to move into the peninsula, san mateo, palo alto and eventually into san jose over the next 45 minutes. so by this weekend, the subtropical plume of moisture continues to feed right into the bay area and rainfall totals will be getting even heavier for tomorrow. so, with that said, flood concerns are with us. the highest, no doubt, in marin, napa, also sonoma counties where we will be watching quickly rising creeks, rivers and also streams. speaking of which, nbc bay area is in mill valley where residents are definitely taking this rain seriously. >> reporter: they are, jeff. we could use a break. it's been raining here in mill valley all night. it's still raining. the wind is picking up. water waves are accumulating all

the rainfall is well offshore at 11:00 at night. it doesn't mean we won't get any rainfall, but we'll have to wait a little bit before the strongest line moving in. 2:00 in the morning you see the bands that develop all the way to san jose. then as we get into 6:00, 7:00, 8:00 tomorrow it's a skaltserred situation with this rainfall and some very heavy pockets that could develop and bring us heavy downpours. it's not only going to be the heavy rainfall but also the wind. there's a lot of colors admittedly on this. you want to look toward the bright colors kurnd at the bottom of your screen. the main event is the wind in the overnight hours and when some of the heaviest rainfall gets here we could see it at the immediate coastline near half moon bay, winds that will likely top 50 miles per hour. then as we head throughout sunday's forecast we'll see this wind begin to calm down. next storm system arrives in the overnight hours all the way through friday's forecast and by saturday we'll be tracking a few scattered showers. we'll have
