raj mathai joins us with the latest number, and some answers, raj? >> janelle, a lot of numbers being thrown around. here is one that gets me though. one in six americans have lost their job, and that trend sadly will be getting worse most likely, from big company, down to the small mom and pop, small businesses, like we talk about, and they're either hiring freezes, or furloughs or flat-out layoff, look at the numbers released today, we will start today in california, more than three million californians have filed for unemployment in the last five week, and since this pandemic has started, and nationwide, 26 million people have filed for unemployment, and there's that one statistic we were talking about, one of every six americans have lost their jobs. so what comes next, and really, how do we get by in this time, and for how long will we be in this cycle? let's bring in david barson, our financial analyst from san mateo, david, nice to have you back on the program. so unemployment runs out in a finite amount of time, say 12 weeks here, and people

raj mathai joins us from home. and we mentioned that last night. that would make them the first cases in the entire u.s. >> yes, this is a big deal. today, we got new information, doctors releasing to us, and this isn't just a statistic here, this could be very impactful, of how we research this disease, moving forward, not just in santa clara county, or the bay area, but really the entire state. now, the first person to die in the u.s., as you mentioned, from the coronavirus, could be from the south bay, and santa clara county, the first death was, the doctors saying, the first coronavirus death was thought to be march 9th but dr. cody saying today it was a 57-year-old woman who died on february 6th and a 69-year-old man who died on february 17th. they are the earliest known victims. now, are these two cases, they're probably the tip of the iceberg. >> what these deaths tell us is that we had community transmission probably to a significant degree far earlier than we had known. >> these cases might explain why santa clara county has had more cases
