raj: i think that's the case. it's worth noting that markets don't play favorites on political issues or social issues. both candidates are seen as being relatively market friendly. the one risk is a protracted dispute of the election. that was abating leadership -- recently. what the work -- market wants more than anything is to have a clear, decisive outcome. and then we move on to business as usual. any suggestion of foreign interference or skulduggery domestically would cause some concern in the markets. it depends on how seriously this report is going to be taken over the next few days. wilson at morgan stanley is saying that his team, the base case would be that we could have uncertainty for three weeks leading up to thanksgiving. in that time, if we have a market selloff, that's the time to take on risk. do you agree? where are you looking? think that there could be a lot of volatility if there's a disputed outcome. mosthe markets, that is disconcerting. i think it is a traders game if you try to play that.

our raj mathai is following this breaking news and he rejoins us now. raj, where are we at in this vote? >> reporter: it just happened about three minutes ago. amy coney barrett confirmed by the senate by a vote of 52-48. she is on the supreme court for life or until she decides to retire. now, why is this such a significant event, especially here in the bay area? well, her conservative view might change the way a lot of people live their lives, especially as we mentioned here in northern california. the high court will continue to reshape lgbtq rights, abortion rights, and more immediately make a possible decision about the future of obamacare. let's take you live to washington, d.c. right now on the senate floor. the official vote as expected along party lines and with the republican majority, judge barrett was confirmed 52-48. we should note vice president pence did not attend. he was not on the floor this evening and did not vote because of a covid outbreak on his staff. now, he's tested negative, but out of an abundance of precaution he was not the

raj mathai joins us no with some answers. raj. >> reporter: janelle, this is a new way of voting for millions of us. we're no longer waiting for that election day of november 3rd. we're doing it now. let's start with counting the ballots. here's the process. millions of ballots are being submitted right now, mailed in or dropped off. initially they will be processed. step two, they'll be verified. however, here's the big difference. they will not be tabulated until 8:00 p.m. on election night. here's another issue now we're talking about. we're getting several reports of voters in santa clara county saying they've received two ballots. this, of course, raises concerns that some people may be able to vote twice. judy betty of los gatos received her first ballot in the mail in early october, just about a week or two ago. she filled it out and delivered it to an election drop box. then she was surprised to receive a second ballot in the mail yesterday. >> because if i fill out a second one and the first one was counted, then i a
