i'm raj mathai. if you're keeping track, here we go. storm number ten arrives early tomorrow morning, and it's expected to hit us pretty hard. a wet and windy weekend ahead. tonight there is some rain in radar here, on the radar, but mother nature showing no mercy yet again. that means more mudslides like this one in fairfax. more flooding also in salinas river, to the south of us, continuing to swell, flooding homes and farmland. and take a look at this. we'll show you a car teetering on the edge of a cliff right there. this is in the santa cruz mountains. that's the car. a chp officer was able to get all three people inside of that car out safely. >>> let's bring in our chief meteorologist, jeff raniere. good to see you, jeff. what's the timeline? we've got a pretty big one coming in tomorrow morning? >> you can see the spotty areas of rain at 3:00 in the morning. i think it's going to start to hit hard at 5:00, waking you up. it's that kind of rain coming down at a very fast rate here through the north bay, san francisco, and south b

raj. >> a lot of people will be there. thank you, janelle. >>> as we close out now, one final word to jeff ranieri. talk about our chilly temperatures across the region. >> yeah. we've seen a huge change from that weather pattern we were in earlier this month. we had this area of high pressure that's building in. that's taking the storm track and moving it off to the north. so dry tomorrow. breezy for the lower elevations, and wind picking up in the mountains. let's move it into that microclimate forecast. i'll show you what to expect as we roll through tomorrow morning. again, it's going to be cold to start. we're here in the 30s for the south bay. down to 39 under those mostly sunny skies. peninsula at 41. the tri-valley valley at 37. also upper 30s here in the east bay. san francisco right there at 47. through the day tomorrow an impressive rebound considering how cold it is to start. we're going to get up to 68 in santa rosa. 64 in concord. mid-60s san jose down to morgan hill. i do think in the mountains we'll see win

>> reporter: hi, raj. let me tell you we were really happy to see the rain stop about 2:00 this afternoon, and we saw some sun break. but in the morning when we were out, it was raining pretty steadily, heavy i would say at times. and the big thing was the trees, the downed trees, because as jeff and rob have been saying, the winds were really howling yesterday and the saturated ground was causing a lot of big trees to fall. the largest one, san francisco department of public works was out, the large tree came down last night and brought down 500 feet of muni wires. so the roads were blocked. the buses were being rerouted. 300 trees or large branches were reported over the last 24 hours. >> that is incredible. let me say we're seeing a lot of damage. what about the cleanup now? are these crews getting around fast enough? are there enough crews to do this? >> i will tell you what we saw last night when we were out. like the scaffolding collapsed that we saw on south van ness. large trees we were seeing in t

raj and i have been trying to go over some of the details. tell us a little bit more about what you heard. >> it's interesting. jessica and raj, you are talking about how tough that community has had it for some time, and that came out through the vice mayor, through the sheriff. the sheriff was saying in addition to all the details of what is unspooling this evening, how tough they've had it and how strong they've had to be. we were looking for some answers. the people out there at the press conference. and she did sort of codify what's going on, talking about the victims tonight, trying to identify them, mentioning that one is still in critical condition at stanford and talking about how hard it has been on the community. and she said this about -- in a little emotional moment about how hard it has been given what is a very tight-knit community. they all know each other. they're all going through this tragedy together as they still try to identify the victims. here's what she had to say about that. >> this community has been through a lot i

i'm raj mathai. good news on this monday, all of this is helping our drought, and it's filling our local reservoirs. but it comes with a hefty price. more flooding, more mudslides, and more downed trees are expected tomorrow. today one of the biggest problem spots, 101 in gilroy. take a look at the flooding here. those are big rigs and cars. this is right near the garlic shop alongside 101. the freeway was shut down for nearly six hours because of all of this flooding. caltrans has reopened 101 about an hour ago. we also saw drivers getting trapped on highway 152, which also flooded. there are plenty of homes flooded, like this neighborhood in felton. this is from our drone camera here. the san lorenzo river runs right through this small town in santa cruz county. tonight the waters are receding but there's a lot of mud and water damage. in the north bay, the russian river continues to rise. communities from petaluma to jenner watching the water closely. the latest projections show that the river may

i'm raj mathai. a lot happening at this hour. the oakland police chief in hot water, and the commander in chief mid-flight back to the white house. we start with president biden. he came to town for about four hours. right now he's on his way back to washington, d.c. after touring our flood-ravaged communities. the visit started just before noon at moffett field. the president was greeted by some political vips, including anna eshoo, zoe lofgren. then he boarded marine one. that's the helicopter. he boarded it with governor newsom and senator alex padilla. the three flew over some of the storm-battered communities in santa cruz county. marine one flew along the coast before landing in watsonville. you see the impressive sight there of the aircraft. president biden then went to capitola, the popular beach town that was hit hard by the floods and the storms. he toured several flooded-out businesses along the historic waterfront, including the paradise grill, pizza my heart, and zelda's. next stop, seacliff state beach in aptos, whe

i'm raj mathai. this is like a 12-round heavyweight boxing match, back and forth with these storms. as of this hour, the rain is moving out for some of us. so at some point, you can take a breather, clean up and reset. we should be dry. we'll find out from jeff from the next 24 hours. but more storms will be here this weekend. there are still problems tonight, plenty of them. creeks and rivers continue to rise. that includes the russian river in guerneville, which means more flooding in the low-lying areas. but the river is expected to crest below a major flood stage. we're also learning of a new death. this morning crews found a woman inside of a car submerged in floodwaters. this happened in forestville, which is northwest of santa rosa. the victim has been identified as daphne fontino from ukiah she did call 911 yesterday morning saying her car was sinking. crews arrived shortly after, but could not find any sign of her or her car. they found that car this morning after the floodwaters started to recede. just be careful out there when you're driving. >>> another problem today, th

i'm janelle wang. >> and i'm raj mathai. we start with that encouraging news.f covid, the flu, and rsv are dropping off. health leaders say it's a good sign, but we are not out of the woods just yet. here's nbc bay area's ian cull. >> reporter: after a november and december that saw the so-called tripledemic cases of rsv, flu, and covid surging, cases have fallen in recent weeks. >> fortunately we are seeing that rates in our wastewater and the number of people getting sick are coming down for all three diseases. >> reporter: health leaders say wastewater samples are one of the best indicators of future trends, and in the south bay, hospitalizations are also down 30% from a month ago. >> our flu numbers look like it peaked maybe about a month ago and are clearly heading in the right direction. then finally our covid numbers are finally heading back down as well although there's still a substantial amount of transmission and risk out there. >> reporter: dr. paul silka says the covid cases they are seeing are generally less severe. one reason more people have ant
