good evening, i'm raj mathai. we're going to get to all those stories in just a moment, but we want to start some of the other headlines that we're watching on this monday night, including the flames on the bay. take a look. a boat fire. our nbc sky ranger was overhead. look how intense that is. the boat engulfed in flames. two people and a dog were on board, but rescued by another boater. here are the details. this happened near redwood city. firefighters say the boat first caught fire after leaving the dock as that fire grew. a second boat managed to reach the vessel and rescue the people and dog on board. witnesses say this all happened quickly. i used to see a bunch of black smoke, and then. so we switched to the emergency station to hear. and then we offer the firefighters any help, and i was like, hey, i have life jackets and, extra line if you guys need it. so. and they said, sure, we'll meet you out there. so we went out and tried to help. incredible that no one was hurt here. the boat did cause a fuel spi

adrian raj. right now, cal fire teams are a little bit north and east of us.e leading edge of this fire. and they're also in neighborhoods like this one. you can see this house is destroyed, but there are homes on either side that survived. so those cal fire teams are patrolling to make sure that these hotspots around here do not get sparked up again. the park fire has unfortunately expanded very quickly in its first 24 hours, and it continues to expand tonight as some homes that were destroyed continue to smolder tonight. cal fire crews are trying to keep ahead of the flames as it continues to expan. the fire has moved in a northerly direction, skirting alongside cohasset and is impacting or will be impacting cohasset here this evening. this is the community of cohasset this evening. structures were still on fire and crews were mobilizing along cohasset road to protect other structures and cut fire lines as the park fire continues to expand, so do evacuation warnings and orders, and so do calls from emergency crews to be ready to get out of the danger zone as

scott raj.most people track pg&e by looking at their bill, and over all of 2023, the average pg&e gas and electric customer's bill went up by more than 22%. that outpaces inflation by a lot. also up pg&e quarterly profit, and that has some customers charged up as the monthly bills of most pg&e customers went up, so did company profits. my bill went to $500 $500 from what? from around $100? pg&e says the hikes were necessary to pay for wildfire safety improvements, and because the cost of doing business was rising, the latest numbers show the utility's profit shot up 28% from the previous three months, totaling $520 million for the quarter, according to the utility reform network. pg&e has multiple rate increase requests sitting on the desk of the cpuc right now, those bills will not likely drop soon. the bills will be higher than what they've ever seen, pg&e ceo recently told our raj mathai she's aware of the sticker shock. it's really important, number one, that our customers know that we know.

i'm janelle wang and i'm raj mathai. we're getting new information about an explosive that triggered the evacuation of several businesses and a school in san jose last week. police did arrest the suspect, which neighbors say was who neighbors say was walking around the days before that evacuation. nbc's marianne favro reports from san jose. the suspect is a 56 year old san jose man. the device was discovered inside a cardboard box here at this business complex, and some people we talk with said they'd seen the man walking around this area in the past. hundreds of people forced to evacuate a chaotic scene july 3rd, as the san jose police department's bomb squad responded to a report of an explosive planted here, a call that all began when police say the suspect called the police department directly. that suspect, 56 year old felix ana, the suspect had called police to report that he had planted an ied at a business. when officers arrived at the location, they located a suspicious device. police say the improvised explosiv

i'm janelle wang and i'm raj mathai. tonight, a south bay family is demanding answers, and it's all about what happened at a santa clara nursing home. a woman at the facility is accused of beating their grandmother to death. and now the family is taking legal action. nbc's damian trujillo is at that nursing home with the latest details. the suspect in this case, connie deluca, is 79 years old. the victim, vera flores, was 98. her family says this violent murder is something that will haunt them for a long time. vera flores family gathered outside the mission. skilled nursing center to unveil their lawsuit. this is where grandma vera, as they called her, was attacked. we trusted them to take care of my grandma to keep her safe and they failed miserably. court documents show grandma vera died at valley med two days after being beaten at the center. the coroner determined the cause of death to be blunt force to the head. me and my family are going to have gaping holes in our heart for the rest of our lives. her pain is over
