i'm raj mathai. >> and i'm jessica aguirre. it's called horrible and racist. an east bay community trying to find out who spray painted graffiti on several cars. the target, a commune devoted to sensual living. sharon katsuda, complicated because the people attacked really want their privacy. >> reporter: that's right, jessica. when we drove up to this neighborhood we received information the graffiti happened here near this private road but we soon found out the people here have a history and they want to remain private. investigators late this afternoon came down the driveway of what neighbors describe as the lafayette moore house. they say someone living on the property posted this on next door, racist graffiti on the cars showing the n word and a swastika among other symbols. >> no one likes that type of an attitude in life. i thought we were past that. >> reporter: the neighbor says law enforcement has responded to the property but it has calmed down in recent years. now there remains a curiosity of what it's about. you can see members with purple homes r

i am raj mathai. i am jessica aguirre. the man who died was skiing inbound at vance. the last time someone died at an avalanche is 1982. jodi a lot of questions here, what do we know. jodi hernandez. >> reporter: a tragic day up here raj, the avalanche happened just about an hour after the ski resort opened this morning as people excited about all the new snow that fell yesterday hit the slopes. the avalanche struck at about 10:15 this morning. the ski patrol responded immediately. the sheriff's department used avalanchers and probes and rescue dog but were unable to save the skier. he's identified as the 34 years old. his wife posted on social media about yesterday how much she loved him. now, let's go play in the snow. tonight skiers and snow borders are heartbroken and shaken. >> really sad. that can be anybody. been hearing a lot of people talk about it. i am glad that those missing people were found. >> when gough oyou go out in are that, it is important to watch snow falling around you. you know in areas where it looks unsettled like avoid those spots and you kn

>> and i'm raj mathai. the market is softening, giving some relief for renters in the bay area. for the first time in years, rent did not go up by double-digits, but it's still rising slowly. scott budman joins us in san jose with some relatively encouraging numbers for renters. scott? >> reporter: yeah, relatively good news, raj. here in san jose, rent went up the least of any major city in the bay area, largely because of the number of construction projects that went up, a lot of people got fed up with high prices and decided to move elsewhere. if you're looking to rent here in the bay area, you'll still find prices among the highest in the nation. >> my rent hasn't gone down since last year. they just keep raising it up. >> basically, the rents are not going down. >> reporter: they haven't gone down, but rental prices are slowing down. after years of going up an average of 10% annually, the newest figures from rent cafe show bay area rents as a whole of just over 1% from last year. san francisco and oakland rents gained more than 2%, but san jose almost flat for 2019. >> the
