i'm back with congressman raja krishnamoorthi. congressman, i want to get your take on tiktok suffering a major setback this week when a federal court rejected the company's petition to overturn that law, which requires tiktok to either find an american owner or face a ban in the united states by january 19th. where we are, where are we on this? >> well, now all three branches have now agreed that tiktok, controlled by the chinese communist party, is a national security threat, and the d.c. circuit court of appeals was very clear. it's time for bytedance to divest tiktok, and it's time for bytedance to accept the law. now, bytedance also tried to stay this particular ruling that the d.c. circuit court of appeals made, but they failed in that as well. and so, again, it's time to sell tiktok. >> tell me about tiktok and what it's doing. how is it a threat? >> well, basically what's going on is this there are national security laws in china that require bytedance, which controls tiktok, to provide all user data to the chinese communi

i know raja krishnamoorthi, ro khanna, they've all their names have been thrown in the hat. >> are you planning to announce a bid for the top dem spot? there? >> no, i'm. i'm very happy leading the democrats on the select committee on the strategic competition with the ccp. but i. i am grateful for any endorsement from jim comer, but i'm not interested. >> all right. i want to ask you about this drone mystery in new jersey that we're all seemingly talking about right now. your colleague, representative josh gottheimer, told cnn this morning that federal officials, quote, have a responsibility to brief the public more thoroughly and make sure everyone knows what they know. what do you know about these drones or flying objects? where they're coming from? is your sense that the public isn't being given the whole story with this lack of explanation? >> yeah, i think that we have a lot of questions right now. as you know, uh, there have been sightings of these drones not only over new jersey, but now, uh, in neighboring states. and so, um, i'm looking forward to a briefing early next week.

and joining us now, democratic congressman raja krishnamoorthi of illinois. congressman, thanks so much for being here. >> thank you so much jessica. >> yeah, i first just want to get your reaction to trump's pick of kash patel who he intends to nominate to lead the fbi. >> i think it's a troubling pick. you don't have to listen to me. you can listen to his former bosses, including john bolton and bill barr, who are very dismayed by his choice. i think there are two things that i can think of that are impacts of someone like kash patel running the fbi. one is our adversaries and the bad guys cheering for someone, you know, going on a political vengeance tour as the head of the fbi. and then secondly, the best talent at the fbi is going to be exiting the doors. they don't want to be part of this circus. and we need the best people to be at the fbi. and so i'm very very concerned about both of those issues. >> yeah. and i don't know if you heard the clip that elena played, but it was from congressman mike lawler who essentially said look, donald, donald trump c

with us now is democratic congressman from illinois, raja krishnamoorthi.ongressman, thank you so much. you are the ranking member on the intelligence committee, which obviously, or you're part of this committee that that passed this bill here, which effectively bans tiktok after january 19th. so what about donald trump's warm spot? can he use that to stop the tiktok ban no. >> but what he can do is he can help to get bytedance and tiktok to comply with the law. save tiktok by actually having bytedance still sell tiktok. that is what the law requires, and that's what they should do. now, all three branches of government have validated the law, including a very ideologically diverse set of jurists on the d.c. circuit court of appeals last week. and so it's time to move on. the clock is ticking. it's time for bytedance to sell tiktok again. >> that needs to happen by january 19th, or it's not allowed on platforms, is my understanding. the d.c. federal appeals court said that congress, you know, lawfully passed this. the supreme court has a chance to weigh in.

illinois democrat congressman raja krishnamoorthi joins me now. nothing nefarious. apparently. that's i don't know if that's satisfying to a lot of people. did you get a better answer in your briefing today? >> yeah, i think that what they were trying to convey to us is that they could explain away the vast majority of the 5000 incidents that were referred to them. what i have said is they need to be more forthcoming about that information to the public. so if you believe that something is a manned aircraft or an amateur recreational drone, then why don't you share that with the public? there are about 100 incidents that they're still digging into, so we need to still hear about those. but overall, i didn't hear evidence of a foreign power threat or some other nefarious activity. >> so they don't think it has anything to do with an adversary. because i want you to listen to what mike mccaul, a republican your colleague of yours, had to say today to reporters i believe they're spying drones and the prc, the chinese communist china is very good at this stuff. >> and we know they
