this is raleigh, north carolina. what a mess. and the rivers there are still rising, even though the rain has ended. a lot of high water rescues. and winter's not done yet, either. look at south dakota. there you have it. mt. rushmore. is that matt on the side? i couldn't tell. looking at half a foot of snow around parts of the dakotas and more coming today. we have severe weather to talk about. severe thunderstorm watches from arkansas into texas. thunderstorm warning in dallas. the watches go until 1:00 this afternoon. 12 million people at risk for strong storms, tornadoes likely for arkansas and louisiana later this afternoon. that's when everything really starts firing up, from 1:00 until about 6:00 in the evening, chicago all the way down into louisiana. we're looking at strong storms, damaging winds. oklahoma to arkansas could see three to five inches of rain. but a wide swath from chicago all the way down into little rock. and the backside of the system, looking at snowfall amounts from six to eight inches from the dakotas

the mid-atlantic states where we now have a tornado watch from richmond, norfolk, on into raleigh, north carolina. we're going to be watching this very closely over the next several hours. right now we have an enhanced risk from salsburiy, maryland, all the way down to wilmington. 15 million people at risk for isolated tornadoes. the highest threat is going to be early this afternoon as the system pushes in. look for more strong storms. moving into the northeast as well with heavy rain. rain up to one inch per hour. that's why we have flood watches up for 47 million people in the northeast and new england. heavy rain saturated ground and melting snow all leading to that. plus, we've got wind advisories from chicago where they could have wind gusts of 60 miles per hour all the way down into the southeast. roanoke. 69 million people at risk for high winds, so, guys, not only do we have the heavy rains, the risk of tornadoes, but with these winds air travel and road travel is going to be a real big problem most of the day today. >> thank you. >> we'll check back in in a moment. it is shaping up to b
