joining us from las vegas is john ralston.rom what you can see close up at what happened at this convention, does the national press, do we have an accurate view of what went down there and how big a deal it was? >> well, it was a pretty big deal, rachel. beyond the allegations of the people being cheated and chairs being thrown and violence, et cetera, the sanders folks, or at least some of them, came to that convention with the intension, the explicit intention of disrupting that convention. they had already sued the party over some arcane dead lynn cheicks that were quickly thrown out. harry reid talked to bernie sanders and got sanders to put out a unity statement, but that wasn't going to do any good. anybody who goes to any convention knows they argue about the rules the they call the chair person a dictator because they don't get their way. but their behavior, and this is a small subset of the sanders supporters was really outrageous. when barbara boxer announced that she was there to speak for hillary clinton, all the

and from las vegas, jon ralston, host of "ralston live." susan page, we're having this conversation because it's important. but even just today there were a flurry of communications throughout the democratic party about the tone and tenor of what the candidates should be doing, what their supporters should be doing. what happened? >> we saw the democratic national chairman debbie wassermann schultz saying the campaigns need to accept. this it's troubling what happened in las vegas. then you had bernie sanders put out a statement saying it's defiant. he said he doesn't support this but he continued with his statement of particulars saying he's not being treated fairly. then we had harry reid, the leader of the democrats in the senate, decry that sanders hadn't done more to address this in a serious way. the concern is not just what happened over the weekend in las vegas, the concern is is this a precursor to a divided democratic party as they head into the democratic national conventiona. >> sreenivasan: what happened over the weekend in the

every neutral reporter out there, including john ralston says your campaign was totally unprepared. you didn't failure delegate slots. >> i don't know that john ralston in this context is a neutral reporter. people on the ground, including senator nina turner, a former ohio state senator, talked about this on a number of networks today, when they started off the process, they passed temporary special rules over the objection of the no votes on the floor. they refused votes. refused to accept motions. it was completely undemocratic process. it was very heavy-handed and unnecessarily so. if they feel they have the numbers, why would you engage in heavy handled tactics. a clearly someone wanted to make a show of authority against a lot of these delegates. these are people who are in the democratic party. it doesn't make any sense. >> do you at all feel as if you guys have a responsibility to tell your supporters you know what, sending threatening voicemails to the chair of the democratic party in nevada is counter-productive? >> we certainly have condemned that. i have condemned it. th

. >> john ralston is a veteran observe esh r of nevada politic.o a contributor when it comes to politics here. based on what we watched play out in your state, john, how worried should democratic party officials be that their national convention will actually be the kind of circus a lot of folks thought the gop convention would be? >> it's a long time between now and the end of july. there's no it reason to believe the kind of sentiments that we saw and are still seeing in the aftermath of that convention from some bernie sanders' supporters exist across the country. i don't think nevada's unusual in that way. and so the question is what's the percentage, right? i've said this before, is it 10%? 20%? 30%? it was a significant minority of bernie sanders' supporters there at the nevada convention. now some of the things were endemic to nevada, they had already sued the state party. they think the state party is a tool of the establishment and of hillary clinton, but that's the same theme as you heard kristen and kasie talking about that exists acros

me now is "washington post" national political reporter abby phillip and from reno, nevada, john ralstonnt to go to you on that last point. i did ask senator reid about this charge that the process at the nevada convention was unfair. you have written a lot about this. tell us what was the bone of contention? what is it that sanders supporters were claiming that the chairman of the nevada state party did wrong to them? >> well, there's a lot of minutae that went on. it was operating at two levels. some of the people there were locals who wanted to take over the state party, wanted more voice in the state party. they came into that convention loaded for bear. they believe roberta lang, chairwoman of the state democratic party, was essentially an agent of the hillary clinton campaign, was not going to be fair to them. they started complaining very early on after the initial credentials committee heard about, you heard harry reid talk about the kree dncredentials co came out with a report that said clinton had essentially won the convention by having more people there. there was a big voice
