long beach or oakland today ramona. well here in long beach there was definitely plenty of pushing and shoving between police and protesters nothing. extremely excessive now there were baton is displayed there was no pepper spray or anything like that like i said they were under arrest of a couple of people there and but the thing is that the long beach police and i think other police forces around the country are starting to gather strategies in order to deal with these protests now we saw a strategy today using riot police now we were encircled by the police and in some instances it seemed like the police vastly outnumbered the protesters so cities were keeping an eye on this protest ready to see the large large numbers and they definitely responded with a very strong force of riot police things did remain peaceful for the most part though in southern california now susie do you know. if there is any attempt to actually block a press like we seen times before. i don't have that experience the spreading it actually loo

today's efforts have been and to talk about all of this i spoke just a little earlier to our own ramona window our producer lucy catherine of and journalist only winston i started off by asking all lead to give us his take on what he saw at the effort to shut down the ports in oakland where he was. before i was up there this morning around five thirty am there was a group of about three to six hundred people admit it was at the it was a bart station the regional rapid transit system and they marched from there out to the port of oakland which is about a mile and a half there also cars and buses taking people out there. and there was a little stand offs with wives of dr who's outside groups that opens about three different sections three different marches having to walk eight different births where there were ships her there were ships in a. mood and tense moments where there were stand offs with the local police in alameda county sheriff's deputies by and large it was peaceful there were no arrests there no clashes that i saw and as of this morning port officials are saying that at leas

all right ramona we've got of course to talk about the occupy movement on the west coast oakland certainly made almost as many waves as new york did with the critical injury of iraq war veteran scott olsen also the port shutdowns there and also where you are there in los angeles some pretty big days talk a little bit about that. no that's right i mean here in los angeles the occupy movement got started just a couple of weeks after it started there in new york and it got going with a lot of enthusiasm i remember on day one there was more than a thousand people there people with signs people with noisemakers showing their discontent with the financial institutions of political institutions and what was interesting in a way that what i observed anyway was that these people were not the type of people that you would expect at protests we've been to a lot of protests here in los angeles we know a lot of the activists around town but what we're seeing at occupy were moms with their children soccer moms who were just unhappy that the war was still going on accountants teachers people from all wal
