the hardest hit area was a subdivision of granbury called rancho bravos. most of those homes were built in the last few years, as habitat for humanity homes. 110 homes alone in that area were destroyed. but i want you to listen to this. listen to these people as they describe what it was like as they watched these tornadoes barreling towards them. >> you could see the whole -- the roof collapsed and you could see the twister just there, facing you. it's horrible. >> you could tell where the tornado went through directly because it's just wiped out. trees gone, houses completely demolished. >> there's just nothing left. i'm sorry. there's just nothing left. >> reporter: you know, unless you've lived through one of these you really don't know what to do when it's coming at you. so people told us some of them waited it out at gas stations, in their cars. others got down in their basement in the bathtub, some said that glass was blowing in on them. others said their ears were popping from the pressure of the storm, anderson, but they are lucky. many of them re

it happened at a home in rancho cordova. firecrews went in at 4:00 a.m. and found two people died. the neighbors say they were a married couple in their 70s. four dogs, three cats and 10 birds killed in the fire. the cause is under investigation. >>> well, an influx of inmates at the county jail. but, the sheriff says that is not because of more convicts just more inmates transferred from state prisons. sentence they reached over 1,000 inmates. up from 772 in october 2011 when the state prison re- alignment program kicked off. those arrested for less serious nonviolent and nonsexual offenses must serve their sentences in county jails. >>> well, even with a number of inmates traps ferred out of state prisons -- transferred out of state prisons, they are going to release thousand its more by the end of year. the state is fighting against that, citing safety. >> over the years california has sent far more criminals to state prison than it has room for. jeff beard heads the california prison system. >> california's prison are built to accommodate 80,000 and there are almost 120,000. >>

all of these victims are from the same neighborhood rancho brazo, the area that took the hardest hit last night. emergency responders were able to evacuate 13 people from that community. others were bussed out. we have not been allowed in that area. tonight, we have been speaking to people as they make their way out. many told us they felt lucky to be alive after watching their homes get blown away. >> i actually survived. i'm still standing. we have no back wall. we have no windows. half of our roof is gone. our vehicles are smashed. we have two huge oak trees and they're gone. >> reporter: according to sheriff, that neighborhood has about 110 homes in it and he says the majority of them have been either severely damaged or destroyed. we also learned that the organization habitat for humanity has been very active in that community and because of that, there was a lot of families living in this community. i asked someone making their way out what it looks like, now that victim told me, looking at it, you wouldn't even know a neighborhood had been there. reporting live in hood county,
