randall pinkston joins us from washington, d.c. do we have any details yet of the prime minister's visit? >> reporter: yes, morgan. the administration made it a point to spell out exactly the fact that the obama administration is supporting the new government of ukraine. it is symbolically significant that the president will welcome the new prime minister into the white house saying to russia the u.s. does not accept russia's contention that the old leader of ukraine is still the legitimate leader. meanwhile, however, russia is creating some facts on the ground of its own with their military forces. in fact, the former u.s. defense secretary roberts gates who served president obama and president bush says russia for all practical purposes has control of ukraine, and it's only the beginning. >> i think it's part of a long-term strategy on putin's part to re-create a russian sphere of influence and russian bloc. i don't think that he will stop in ukraine until there is a government in ukraine, in kiev that is essentially pro-russian.

randall pinkston joins us from washington. former defense secretary said today he doesn't think russia will let go of crimea. what is the u.s. doing to respond to russia's pretty aggressive move? >> reporter: well, morgan, the obama administration for now is focusing on political isolation and economics. today, the deputy national security adviser says russia is already feeling the pain. >> the cost is already significant, first of all. second, the president's made clear that going forward in coordination with our partners and allies, we have in place a mechanism with sanctions to raise the cost significantly, but this is really a choice for the russians to make. >> reporter: they say if president putin does not change course, russia will face increasing international isolation. morgan. >> speaking a response, what kind of response is the president getting from republicans? we know that cpac for example just wrapped up yesterday. >> reporter: yeah. cpac speakers, many of them, were scathing in their criticism of the administra

joining us now is randall pinkston from washington, d.c. with more on this. ndall, let's talk about those satellite images, especially the new one from france. how significant is that for the several? >> jonathan, that is difficult to say until something is found, retrieved and matched with the missing airliner, image 370 he is promising that they are roughly in the same area as planes return for the from the search zone, it was the malaysian government that announced a french satellite has spotted what's described as potential obvious jets in the vicinity the southern search corridor. malaysian officials say those were related to australia in charge of searching the indian ocean but it has been three weeks since that plane disappeared and with no sign so far, no congressman here is blaming malaysia. the reports that i am getting are frustration about we are invited in only a little bit. so, i think across the board, people are looking for more in the way of openness in the from the malaysian government in a timely manner. he is a member of the homeland securi

joining us now is randall pinkston with more on this search. randall, what can you tell us so far? >> reporter: morgan, the announcement of this large object that was announced on china's national defense website. the find was made four days ago. the announcement was made today by the malaysian government. it was found in approximately the same area about 70 miles from the location where another satellite spotted two other pieces of debris earlier. now let's take a look at the satellite image that china provided. it shows the image of an object 72 feet long some 43 feet wide within the area that was searched by australia and other multi national planes and ships on saturday. approximately 1500 miles off the west coast of australia. malaysia's acting transport minister said ships and planes will be sent back to the area to take a look to see if they can find that object. >> the search fo has taken many twists and turns. from satellite images to eyewitness accounts we have followed every lead and investigated every possibility. i know the rollercoaster has been incredibly hard for ev

randall pinkston is in washington but we begin with jennifer glass.russian troops on the ground, how is this affecting ukrainian soldiers? >> there's a standoff here in ukraine. the russian sole he jeers are virtually in control of everything here. this morning, we saw a couple of truckloads deployed outside of bases. they've been coming and going outside some of the smaller bases, keeping the ukrainian military gisting, locked in their bases and their ships, sailors are stuck, ships can't move at all. it's been very calm. over the weekend, the russians have changed troops around. they were at a ship yesterday and the russian ship that had been blockading was switched out, because obviously the russian officers felt the russians and ukrainians were getting too friendly. at one base, we saw russians going to get a hot kettle of tea from the ukrainians at the gate. while the russians have been blockading, the soldiers in the ground are communicate, each other. this is a very tense situation just six days before the referendum where crimeans will decide
