randall pinkston is at the white house for us and randall, look we got a pretty rare glimpse at the presidentring his remarks there the oval office. this was clearly a major decision that supported a position that he took not that long ago. there was the conversion for this president, wasn't there? >> there certainly was, tony and we must point out the remarks the president was prepared we think had more to do with his eulogy this afternoon, rather than the statement that he did issue in the rose garden which was extemporaneous. the president came to the white house six and a half years ago. he wasn't exactly what we would call a huge supporter of same-sex marriage. you could even say he had not made his position known, and he talked about it in terms of it being a relationship between a man and a woman, but the president did evolve. he did change his point of view publicly and of course in terms of the actionsover his administration, and he spoke in the rose garden passionately and at length about this historic decision from the supreme court, indicating that real change is possible. >> we a

i'm randall pinkston. the supreme court came out with its final decisions for the term today. big ones over same-sex marriage and the affordable care act subsidies are still pending but the justice asks rule in favor of a raisin farmer and against the government. lisa stark joins us. lisa what about the ruling and is it a big blow to the government? >> this is a program that dates back to the depression. what was, a prom to prop up the prices of raisins. the government would tell the raisin farmers that you have to give us percentage of the crops. we'll give it to the schools sell it overseas but to keep the price of raisins at a certain level. there was a farmer who didn't like this. sometimes they would have to give 478%47% of their raisin crops, and the farmers are not getting money for this. they felt that it was answer reasonable taking of their property, and the supreme court in an 8-1 decision agreed. most of the justices agreeing that the government not only had to pay them for the raisins that they've taken over its years but had to drop a $700,000 fine against the ca

i'm randall pinkston. china is denying allegations that it was involved in the hacking of u.s.overnment computers computers. officials say hackers stole the personal information of at least 4 million workers in unwith of the largest data breaches in history. mike viqueira is live for us in washington. mike what are officials saying about how this breach happened? >> it's interesting because the united states government has spent billions of dollars over the course of the last several years to beef up its cyber security programs across the federal government. and what had happened is that the office of personnel management the opm, essentially the human resources defendant was upgrading its cyber security. and it was in april that it discovered a potential breach and they discover it goes back to at least late last year they are targeting december. late yesterday this news broke. some 4 million individuals within the federal government employed now, and people who were employed with the federal government are potential victims of this breach. for the time being they are advising

randall pinkston is here with the details. andall, this focuses on veterans from the wars in iraq and afghanistan. >> it's the first stayed that looks at veterans exposed to bomb blasts but not diagnosed with concussions. it shows exposure to explosions harms the brain and may speed the aging process. >> for years -- >> traumatic brain injury among veterans, 244,000 were diagnosed with mild to severe brain injuries from conflicts in afghanistan and iraq. according to the new study in the brain it indicates that the damage is far more extensive. researchers looked at two types of veterans, those exposed to bomb blasts and had concussions and those exposed with no concussions, a result, mere exposure harms the brain increasing aging. scans of the brain reveal that both sets of veterans showed damage to white matter tissue, which is correlate to the aging pros affecting memory and other cognitive functions. even veterans exposed to bomb blasts years ago showed signs of brain degeneration and aging. >> what are the larger implicati

good morning live from new york city, i'm randall pinkston. the head of the t.s.a. is reassigned, his boss calling for changes for screening procedures after major security lapses were found. agents were able to smuggle mock explosives and weapons right past t.s.a. gate screeners? >> that is the brutal and quite frankly frightening proof. the report is as skatings as it is shocking. the department of homeland security sent undercover agent to say airports to test procedures across the country. they tried to smuggle 70 prohibited items into airports, including fake weapons and explosives. they succeeded 67 out of 70 times for a success rate of 95%. now the acting head of the t.s.a. has been reassigned. acting director joined the agency in 2004. his deputy will take over for now. homeland security director jay johnson is calling for major changes including setting up new training for supervisors. the agency will retest and reevaluate screening equipment and also boost the number of secret tests of screening procedures. >> it is disconcerting when we are trained to ide

good morning live from new york city i'm randall pinkston. a day of healing for worshipers at a south carolina church struck by a shooting that left nine members including the pastor dead. more than 1,000 people crowded in and around emanuel a.m.e. church monday. the church, known as mother emanuel opened its doors for the first services since the attack. thousands marched for peace and solidarity. jonathan martin is live in charleston. the service and march came on father's day. >> i sat inside during the service and certainly it was tough for a lot of the members and ministers to get through but they pushed through. this day ended yesterday with a really strong show of solidarity with all of those people marching and joining hands across charleston's famous bridge, a sign of peace and solidarity. officials expect 3,000 people to know up. when the day was done, some 10,000 people showed up there in peace. they reopened four days after the mass killing here. one minister told me, they had to reopen these doors because with all of the media he

live from new york city, i'm randall pinkston. the government is beefing up security today after one of the largest data breaches in history, hackers made their way into the files at the office of personnel management, taking personal information from at least 4 million current and former federal workers. investigators are saying evidence points to china being responsible, but this morning china is saying that accusation is irresponsible. mike viqueira has the latest. >> this information started to break late thursday when the office of personnel management, the human resources department for the entire federal government reports that they had discovered a breach. in april they updated their cyber security protocols and discovered the breach but it had begun in september affecting some 4 million federal employees, both past and present. they say in a statement in part as a result of the incident, o.p.m. will send notifications to 4 million individuals whose personal identifiable information may have been compromised. since the inv

randall pinkston joins us with more. quite startling statistic,ments the second year of the survey. >> we are not talking about organized, controlled exposure to weapons the research is focused on negative exposure that has the affect to cause harm. it's no news any child confronted with a negatives weapon incident is a victim. it occurs frequently. the survey found 17.5 million youth in the u.s. have been exposed to violence involving a weapon either as a witness or a victim. that's one in four children in america. of that number, 2 million were assaulted with guns or knives, weapons defined as highly lethal. they did not include sticks or bottles. children in be low income and high crime communities were more likely to be impacted by negative exposure. >> there's breakdown by race in the survey. >> probably not too phrasing, the overall exposure to weapons is higher in the white community but the rate of victims of weapons violence is highest in black and la teen nope communities. that's where it's a virtual tie 26%. 1
