randi's joining us from the streets of new york. about when these two police officers will be laid to rest? >> wolf, the rainy streets of new york, i should point out. we're learning that officer ramos is expected to be buried on saturday. there aren't any definitely plan announced for officer liu. we understand his family is waiting for more family to come from china before they make those final arrangements. as you saw earlier in the program when officer liu's family came out to speak, they're distraught. the family's doctor told reporters that the parents aren't eating. they haven't eaten since their son was killed. they're trying to understand how they lost their only son. both of these men will be terribly missed. officer ramos was studying to be a chaplain and the president of that group that he was studying with told us tonight that he felt that being a police officer was also doing god's work, wolf. >> randi, what a heartbreaking story this is. our deepest condolences to the families. >>> up next, breaking news. north korea'

>> reporter: this is interesting, randi. we know he has sort of shifted his tone here initially before the two officers were gunned down, the mayor had been criticized for supporting the protesters and demonstrators who have been out in the city the last few weeks. yesterday was the first time we've heard him take a stronger stance asking people to lay off the demonstrations to hold off to allow the families some time to grieve, to pay respects and tribute. this comes on the heels of the union saying that the mayor has blood on his hands for the death of these officers. so some people are saying is the mayor reversing course, trying to find a middle ground here that's going to resonate differently for different people but certainly doesn't erase any of the tensions that we are seeing between the union and the mayor's office. the mayor hoping people will stay off the streets. at the same time, randi, that may not be the case. we are already seeing social media reports suggesting that some people could protest out here in new

randy gyllenhaal is live on the scene. randy, last time we checked in with you, i see the police lights behind. you. >> reporter: well, the investigation is ongoing. the tow truck is probably going to take this car away very shortly. police say it started as a simple traffic accident and it turned into an incident of violent assault. you can see this black sedan behind me. police say this is the car that slammed two other parked cars. three cars involved. police say immediately after the accident, one of the owners of one of these parked cars came outside, was extremely upset and pistol-whipped the driver of this car. that 58-year-old victim taken to the hospital at the university of pennsylvania. we do not know that person's condition right now. but police are out here investigating. they will not specify whether they've made any arrests but they do say the victim, the driver of this car was pistol-whipped. you can see the damage is extensive as tow trucks remain out here in the overbrook section of the city. randy gyllen

>> good morning randi. former heisman trophy winner winston has been clear offhand wrong doing out of student code of conduct hearing from an alleged sexual assault. florida state held a two day hearing to determine if jameis winston violated the code of conduct. he was never arrested from the 2012 incident but faced a school hearing because of florida state obligations under title nine. former supreme court justice hardy wrote this to winston. quote, this was a complex case. i worked hard to make sure both parties had a full and fair opportunity to present information. the preponderance of evidence has not shown you're responsible for charges in the code. i find the evidence before me is insufficient to satisfy the burden of proof. winston's accuser wasn't happy about the ruling saying quote, we are stunned and dismayed by the order. at some point we have to recognize that florida state is never going to hold jameis winston responsibility. florida state will participate at the first ever college rose bowl

i'm randi kaye in for carol costello. we begin in new york where anti-police anger and tension appear to be escalating. nearly one week after two new york city police officers were ambushed and gunned down, authorities have arrested at least half a dozen people for allegedly making copycat threats. the most recent, a 26-year-old hauled off in cuffs after officials say that he posted online pictures of weapons with a vow to kill police officers. cnn has learned that a 41-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly threatened officers in the same precinct where officers wenjian liu and rafael ramos were stationed. all of this happening as friends and family prepare to say good-bye to ramos at a public wake. let's bring in cnn's miguel marquez in new york outside the church where loved ones and police from around the country are expected to gather later today. good morning, miguel. >> good morning, randi, regardless of how much anti-police sentiment there may be out there at the moment, i think we are going to see an overwh

nbc 10 as randy gyllenhaal is live with details on what happened. tell us what happened. >> reporter: very busy day for first responders on many roadways doubecause of the icy conditions. the police officer was here. he was placing road flares into the road intersection here when another car spun out of control and hit him. according to the police, the officer was thrown to the side of the road. he was rushed to the hospital with multiple internal injuries. right now, it appears that driver lost control because of ice on the roads. spinning out, slamming into the officer. for a few hours this more than, the roadways in the area were very slick. we had heavy snowfall that froze on the pavement. the driver in that out of control car did remain on the scene and cooperate with police. this was just one of many accidents in the area blamed on the slick roads. we have been watching road crews putting salt on the road up and down the area. it's still slippery. in this case, police say that officer who was hit is expected to survive. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 1
