tonight, nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live along the blue route in plymouth meeting with a push to stop these trucks from driving on pennsylvania roads. randy? >> reporter: yeah local police and some safety groups are saying that these longer tandem trucks can actually cause more accidents. right now, they are banned on the roads here in pennsylvania in 39 states totally but that could change thanks to some lobbying from online retailers like amazon. the trucks on our roads are delivering package across veins and arteries connecting the economy. often -- it seems like they're everywhere. scary to pass on the left. >> i'm holding my breath the whole time. >> reporter: lisa stevenson thinks bit each time she hops in her mini van. >> you get nervous when i know i'm in the blind spot. >> reporter: now trucks could be getting even bigger. the new law would allow two trailers instead of one, adding about 20 feet in length and increasing the distance it takes to stop. law makers are worried about accidents like this one near reading last year. >> the number of big truck related accidents went

nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live near the base tonight. what's the reaction there? >> reporter: we were outside the entrance to the joint base mcguire. it has both a recruiting center and a number of reserve units so military families on base can absolutely relate to what is happening in tennessee. you can see this is the entrance. they are telling us no changes to security policy. obviously they are aware of the situation. the base here was actually upgraded security-wise a couple weeks ago because of a separate incident but right now, no changes to security are being made on the base. of course they do say the safety of the families on the base and everyone who works here is their number one priority. they are aware of the situation in tennessee. we also have been chatting with a few people who live near this community. this is a very heavily military community. we did just drop into a barbershop. a number of cadets and others were getting haircuts there. they are just becoming aware of this situation. obviously very upsetting because it appears at this point the

nbc 10 randy gyllenhaal joins us from the special victims' unit. what are you learning about the investigation tonight? >> detective say they got a pretty good description of this suspect last seen near that golf course and they're hoping that someone may have saw him roaming around that area this morning. the man approached this victim from behind as she was walking to work about 3:30 a.m. police say the woman was dragged on to the cobs creek golf course and sexually assaulted. the suspect then fled. he is described as a 30 something male short, about 5'3" 5'4" with short, dark hair and clean shaven and last seen wearing a white t-shirt. special victim detechives say right now no indication of a pattern of assaults in that area. of course, they do want to track this guy down as soon as possible hoping to talk to anyone who may have seen him near that golf course. randy gyllenhaal nbc 10 news. >>> six philadelphia police officers caught up in a corruption scandal are getting their jobs back. the six narcotics officers fought to get their jobs back

randy gyllenhaal is live near the national park with the latest. randy, what have you learned? >> reporter: denise, we're standing on the beach here at national park. it's directly across the coverriver from philadelphia international airport. there is an island behind me that's popular with boaters. earlier this afternoon, one man on a boat decided to jump off for a swim but never resurfaced. rescue crews spent more than eight hours today on the water looking for this man on the delaware river. coast guard and crews were on the water for most of the day. they found his body about 8:30 tonight. witnesses telling authorities that the man jumped off the back of the boat but could not swim. a passing jet ski tried to help by throwing a life vest into the water. >> the jet ski tried to save him, but it was too late. he went under, and they couldn't find him again. as i got down here the search and rescue team showed up and they were returning back to their cars. that's when they mentioned they did recover the body. >> reporter: the victim's body has been pulled into the river by re

nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal joins us live this evening with what the fbi is focusing on right now. y? >> reporter: we have been watching these agents all day going in and out of city hall taking documents and computers. we have learned that this started when a federal judge in philadelphia signed a search warrant. the agents came in and again, this is the second such case this week in the lehigh valley. a dozen fbi agents wearing black suits and armed with a search warrant walked into the offices of reading mayor vaughn spencer. they gathered computers, documents and boxes. our nbc 10 cameras followed the raid as it moved into the mayor's house. agents took even more evidence declining to comment, but the city solicitor told us they're cooperating with authorities. >> obviously taking some documents and some records. i won't tell you exactly what they're looking for. i really can't comment on what they're confiscateingconfiscating. >> reporter: the mayor elected in 2011 was unavailable to answer questions. the raid on his office comes just one week after allentown's mayor faced a ra

nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal has more on their message to the state. >> reporter: rupert elementary is getting the first day of classes but it's tough to plan for an entire school year when your funding is up in the air. >> pass a budget in a timely manner. >> reporter: today, teachers and parents held a rally giving this report card to politicians. the grade, incomplete. for weeks, governor tom wolf and republicans have been in a standoff. wolf proposes $400 million for schools. republicans only offered $100 million. >> that really is kind of a punch in the face. >> the possibility of losing programs that are really important. >> very difficult to give the kids the best that we can when we don't have the tools. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with republican lawmakers who tell me the governor's plan is just too costly and relies on big hikes to sales and income tax. they also say most school districts would still see an increase to their budget for example pottstown would see about a 4% bump. >> as class sizes increase quality decreases, no question. >> reporter: but the superintendent

nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live near the base tonight. what's the reaction there? reporter: we were outside the entrance to the joint base mcguire. it has both a recruiting center and a number of reserve units so military families on base can absolutely relate to what is happening in tennessee. you can see this is the entrance. they are telling us no changes to security policy. obviously they are aware of the situation.
