remember that he missed last year's east asia's summit because of budget rangeling w ih the very same republican that is have now took control of the senate. the u.s. will look at eas very much as a security and political aspect of their pivot where they view apec and tpp as the economic element of they're pivot or rebounce to asia. that's not the way the southeast asians see it necessarily. and this is something that i hope the white house will work with economic managers in the u.s. government to address as they look to pivot 2.0 or a resetting of the pivot. southeast asia can't imagine an economic strategy for the united states for asia that tonight include china. tpp looks a little strange to them. tpp, as matt mentioned, includes 12 countries, including the united states. but it's not eligible -- not even all the asean countries are eligible to join tpp. i think everybody wants to see tpp get done. they want to see the president spending political capital on that. i think the southeast asians believe that the indicator for that will be a strong statement out of the friday morning
