right now what is storm ranger picking up? just a little bit of spotty activity there near morgan hill, but things are going to increase in terms of that activity. i want to take you to a wider look where you can see that heavier rainfall is coming from. also known as the pineapple express, it's a consistent stream of heavy rainfall that's been hitting central and southern california. 8:00 tonight it's off to the south. 9:30 it's starting to edge closer, and once we hit 11:30 even closer. there's a key change, though, into the overall-timing of this. it looks like the path of that atmospheric river may stay a bit more off to the south overall. so that will bring the south bay the heaviest chance of rain overwith the santa cruz mountains with a big soaking. we have a second storm ranger truck in southern california. we're going to have a live look what's happening down here at

we've got storm ranger tracking it all for you. we are the only ones with this tool, it's a mobile doppler radar here in the bay area parked on san bruno mountain and it's giving us second by second updates on exactly where the rain is falling. just south of moraga we can see rain falling through and it's moving closer to danville. so you have a few more minutes to get out the door before that rain reaches your doorstep. it's also been raining on 580 heading into oakland. as i take off storm ranger and just show you the national weather service radar, doesn't give you as much detail, just kind of just shows a big blob everywhere. this is not all where we're seeing that inn ra. then i'm starting to see light showers pop up just north of san mateo, watching this right there approaching burlingame on 82 within the next few minutes. now, we are looking at a bigger storm system and we know from basic science that warm air rises, but these little disturbances in the atmosphere are forcing cold air to rise. so we are going to see the show

i've been tracking this with storm ranger in the north bay and for santa rosa and napa, the rainfallates coming down very light, only at about a few hundreds of an inch of rain per hour near the napa area. this is what you can expect mostly starting out with light sprinkles this morning as you step out. it is that reminder that you do need the umbrella. we are going to see the heavier rain in the south bay by 10:00 or 11:00 this morning and we at times could have gusty winds. the winds will pick up as the day goes along. i'm looking at wind speeds at 25 to 30 miles per hour as this rain will be off and on. you can see it's not going to be just raining all day, it's going to be very hit or miss showers that will start to ramp up in coverage as we go into tonight as well as thursday as this rain continues, but even as we continue to take it through the timeline you just see some scattered showers off and on, but a lot more heavy as we head into thursday. starting out in the morning. so here is what to expect. rain starts today, mostly light, but this will be a windy and a warmer storm.
