the cedar rapids city council will hold a special meeting today to talk about giving the company access to the building. last month, the council picked a proposal from hobart to turn the building into apartments and office space. council members liked the idea of immediately stabilizing the building. the hobarts expect finish the project by next fall. initially, the council considered a plan to turn the building into a magnet school. the cedar rapids school district linn county supervisors will vote on a county-wide increase in the minimum wage at a formal meeting tomorrow. it's the first of 3 votes. it would boost the minimum wage a dollar each year for 3 years starting january first. that would take the minimum wage from $7.25 an hour now to $10.25 by the year 2019. one question for county leaders is whether some towns or cities would "opt out."
