first of all, how did you learn about ravid?> thank you very much so much, again, it's great to see you here. it's one of those roller coaster emotional days here, here in texas and back home in israel where we're learning the sad truth of the -- ten of the -- he was found dead, his body was recovered in gaza strip, was confirmed by the idf this morning, early this morning here in texas, that his body is actually recovered and found it in gaza strip. we can only assume as we don't have any evidence of what happened on october 7th, we know it was very hard to trace every single one of the hostages. and we know exactly what happened. same thing has happened to my aunt. it's really hard to know the details at this point, but here we are again few days after big sigh of relief to our family with daron, ros, and aviv being reunited and our family finally could take a big sigh of relief and joy, happiness. and here we are today again mourning and dealing with the grave sadness and the loss of another family member that was so close an

it's also known ravid was not taken on his own. his sister and her children were released at the beginning of the hostage exchange. they came out on friday. so just learning now the horrible news that one member of their family died while in gaza. as for what else is happening woorx we have just heard from the idf there has been an exchange of fire that threatens the cease-fire agreement here. i'll read you the statement. over the last hour, three explosive devices were detonated adjacent to idf troops in two different locations violating the framework of the operational pause. they also say in one of those locations they came under fire and returned fire. that's significant because it is clearly the largest violation of the pause in the fighting that we have seen thus far. now, we have got no indication that this threatens the overall agreement. we have a list of the hostages to be released tonight. so far at least it appears that process is continuing but this is definitely worth keeping an eye on to see if it rattles what has pr

i'm joined tonight by axios foreign policy reporter barack ravid. i'm also happy to note, is also cnn's newest political and foreign policy analysts. barack, it's so great to have you, especially given how well sourced you have been in all of this. on this matter tonight, how likely is an extension? what are your sources saying about how long that extension could go on, if there is one? >> good evening caitlin, it's great to be here. i am still under the impression of the previous interview did, just, it's just very hard to watch this. and you know, this crazy situation. but to your question, i think your question is very much connected to this interview. because, one of the things that bill burns, the director of the cia, and the prime minister of qatar, shake muhammad -- , and the egyptian intelligence chiefs -- . what they heard today from the director of the mossad -- is that israel is not ready to discuss any future deal on hostages, and then or soldiers or anything, before all the women and children are released, as part of this. and i think t

joining us now, barak ravid. you know the ins and outs of these things better than pretty much anyone. when you heard john finer from the white house saying yesterday that things are looking pretty hopeful, more than they have, does it tell you that this is going to happen? a deal for hostages? >> good morning, i think -- i don't think we should, you know, seal the deal just yet. a lot of things can happen, a lot of things can change. this hostage deal is very connected to what's going on, on the ground. and any small incident that happens on the ground can change everything. but i think that what stands behind what john finer said, is that hamas after a few days, they went underground, did not speak to the qatari mediators. over the weekend, on saturday, they reengaged in the negotiations and i think this is why there is some progress. >> do you have a sense from any of your sources -- we've heard -- people are understandably very concerned to give a timeline, but do you think there's a better sense of a timelin

joining us for that is brock ravid, political and foreign policy reporter at axios. brock, first of all, what do you make of what we have been witnessing over the last several hours? what are you hearing about what is going on the ground? >> hi, good evening. i think that what we see on the ground right now is the ground operation. okay, until today, the idf was inside gaza, but it was on the outskirts of gaza city. today the idf basically broke into gaza city, into neighborhoods like telelhawa, where a lot of the hamas security services headquarters are located to other neighborhoods in gaza, to the refugee camp. this is the real deal what we see right now. and at least from everything i hear from israeli defense officials, i think they're much more satisfied than i would say even a bit surprised by how much progress they made so far in the ground operation. >> progress in terms of literally how many -- how much ground they have been able to move forward on, or just casualties by the idf? how do they measure that? >> i think it's twofold. one, how fast they were abl

. >>> from brock ravid, foreign policy reporter at axios. what is your impression about the military base that was attacked on october 7th and three tunnels converging there and the weapons storage near jabalya? >> hi, anderson. you know, the irony is that this base, and i heard the trump people who served people who served there for years, this base is not only the entry point and the exit point from gaza, but it is also the headquarters of the government coordination office, which is the unit that is in charge of helping palestinians to get out of gaza for, you know, medical appointments and it runs all the workers from gaza that enter israel. and this was one of the targets that hamas attacked during on october 7th. >> it's now pretty clear based on all the intelligence that hamas had about the inner works of the kibbutz all along the board they're at least some of the workers from gaza who were working in those kibbutzim, whether it was years or months or whatever, they were gathering information. >> yeah, that's definitely one of the --

with me here in studio, axios reporter brock ravid who is deeply sourced in the middle east. and what we're seeing in gaza right now, it's 3:00 a.m. there. this is kind of what's been happening every night. there is no pause happening right now. i think it's notable given what president biden said tonight at this closed door fundraiser. he was being shouted down from a rabbi calling for a cease-fire. he talked about a pause. but it's not totally dpleer that will happen, what it will look like. >> yeah. i think we need to differentiate between a cease-fire. this is basically something which is pretty long, at least a few days that might lead to a total cessation of hostilities. this is not in the cards, okay. when biden speaks about the pause, he speaks about something israel is already doing on the ground without saying it. for example, today, when the ambulances came in and took 80 wounded palestinians to egypt, and every day when the trucks are coming in, there is an unofficial pause that israel stops a lot of its military operations in southern gaza to allow that to happen
