jeff of raymond james joins us now. you dare call a bottom, jeff? >> well, i was on joe's show last monday, and our energy team, which i think is as good as it gets, was looking for a bottom in the $40 to $45 dollar area. they've had a negative call on oil for the past few years. >> you put a low on crude oil prices, and we'll have to see in f if that holes. au auto. >> danbury, new field exploration. marathon. do you take heart in how the oil-related stocks have done? >> i do. they have been absolutely crushed. especially the ones that were levered 2-1. they just took those out and shot them. i mean, you've got little stocks down from $40 a dozen months ago to $2. if crude oil is bottomed, you will see dramatic moves on the up side in some of the compressed stocks. >> is there any of those particular stocks that you think would be a good investment? even if you might have missed the absolute bottom and they bounced a little? do they have a great deal of upside that you would make? >> i think that individual investors likely best served by buying on

it got hit with a vicious downgrade from raymond james, ultimately caused the stock down to 68 in a matterbut we knew that the airlines are perhaps the single most direct beneficiary of the decline in oil prices. and regulators know that spirit the lowest cost carrier out there is the best-run company in the group. it's run for profit. southwest airline would dispute that but that's okay. in short, the pullback to 68 was an incredible buying opportunity. sure spirit soared back over $80 today, up 4 buck up 5.3%. a terrific quarter. yes, a big drop in oil. the company delivered a 2% earnings beat with inline revenues that rose 13% year-over-year and a fabulous pretax margin. up 430 basis points. spirit has given us a quick 13% gain. the stock has more than tripled since i started recommending it nearly two years ago. but even at these levels it trades 15 times next year's earnings estimates. i think it has a lot more room to run. let's take a close look with ben baldanza, the president of spirit airlines. learn more about his company the quarter, the profits. mr. baldanza welcome back to "m

we have phil chief equity strategist and jeff chief investment strategist at raymond james. both of you have some pretty lofty targets there for the s&p. >> by our measurements, there are oodles of internal energy here for a sustainable move. very fast up through 2200 on the s&p. >> you are looking at 2350. how are we going to get there? what's going to drive markets higher to 2350? >> we just hit 2,100 earlier today. that was our target for the end of last year. >> something in the neighborhood of $130 by the end of this year. we think that treasury yields still 2%. very low. core inflation 1.3% still very benign. the ability for multiples to expand up to about 17.5 18 times earnings by the end of the year we think is doable. >> jeff you know what about the greek drama right now. do you feel that there is a bit of complace ensy that everything will be all right and some sort of deal will be negotiated? >> i do think some sort of deal at the last minute will be negotiated. the germans can't have greece dropping out of the e.u. i don't think the greek people when it comes to

the chief economist with the american petroleum institute, and the senior energy analyst with raymond jameso you both. thank you very much for joining us here on cnbc. john, let me kick off with you. this strike now doesn't appear to be affecting demand but this is now -- for oil. but it is now 20% of the refining capacity in the country that potentially could be impacted. that presumably is an oil negative potentially moving forward. >> i'd have to defer any questions on individual refineries to the operators themselves. but if you look at the data for the last four weeks, production of fuel has been relatively constant and at very high levels. so far, things are looking very good. >> is morgan stanley right when they warned the u.s. crude stocks will build right the way through until may? is that the profile of what you see? >> well so far we've seen crude stocks build in the united states to over 400 million barrels. that's data from both the iea and api. remember, this is only part of the world's supply in stocks. we only have good data for the united states, and good data for the oecd.

. >> savvy joins us from raymond james. she's behind that call and also with us is jack moore from the street.com who is less optimistic about the airlines. welcome to you both. do you feel any differently now that oil has behaved today the way it has. >> no and that was really our call. we saw oil moving back up and we expect it to move back up. our estimates for 2015 preflekt a reflect a $70 brand price. this is a group that's profitable at $100, $110 brent. even if brent is at $70 or $80, it will be a group that's profitable. >> the fact we're down 8% in crude, now that we're back below $50, does that change your call at all? >> it just makes it stronger. you know what you're going to probably have into 2015 is possibly a one-time cash windfall for the group. as long as the economy stays strong, we expect fares to hold steady and a lot of cash to be generated and that cash is powerful because it can improve balance sheets and as well as create a lot of cash to be returned to shareholders. a great example is in 2008 when
