tavis mccourt joining us from raymond james.d in the reit sector and a large one at that. this morning at 9:00 a.m. simon property group releasing a letter and an offer to acquire mall-based operator macerich for $91 a share in cash and stock. 50/50 would be the composition of said $91 a share offer from simon property group, which has been trying to engage macerich in a potential deal for months. in fact, back in december and again in february simon and its ceo david simon had tried to link up or at least get a friendly deal going with macerich, but was not able to do so. thus deciding this morning to come with what we term a bear hug, or more or less a hostile offer for the company which it is offering $91 a share for a company that does line up geographically quite well with simon property group. the largest mall operators in this country. most of its operations or its larger properties, i should say, are in california and arizona. though it also does own the very well-known tyson's corner in virginia, and a number of propert

joining us now is an energy analyst at raymond james.he federal reserve meeting, and it was a pretty strong one and the price of oil was short lived and the price is headed back lower? >> well it was an artificial rally because the oil was actually down 2% yesterday after the inventories number in the morning and that reversed course completely after the fed statement and actually ended up 4% on the day so pure currency trade, you know, it's very important to emphasis currency does not set oil prices in the long run. day to day, yes, there is an inverse correlation between the dollar and oil futures, but in the long run that is absolutely not what sets pricing. >> i guess the question for you, and i know "the wall street journal" did call you out a few months ago and other analysts in your sector who cover energy companies and haven't been able to nail the call on the price of oil, is how do you tell clients and people what to do with the big oil companies when it's hard to see a bottom for the price of oil? >> right. well in the short r

this morning, raymond james said corporate profits will be hit by the stronger dollar but it's a two-quarterre that i believe that. according to deutsche bank something like 40% of the profits in the s&p 500 are basically overseas. currency trends tend to be very long and very pervasive. this is not a one or two quarter thing. i think what could be worrying to be concerned about in the future the longer this goes on is intermat markets. the amount of debt denominated in u.s. dollars issued by emerging market companies, for example, has more than doubled over last three years. look at china. china corporates is an area that our em group the doubleline has been avoiding. here's a good reason, 25% of chinese corporate debt is denominated in u.s. dollars, onlys are. >> the european data looking better. it looks like qe is having an impact certainly in germany and negative interest rates. is this a game changer? has europe turned the corner in terms of its economy. >> i wish i had a dollar every time we turned the corner in the u.s. economy over the last couple of years. >> true. >> i'm happy to
