so every day that is reflected in realtime. secondly, cds90% of cds contracts are collateralized by other securities or cash for the counterparty risk. and, third, what's important in cds, the way the cds market works is you have the gross amount and then you have the net amounts. the net amounts are calculated by institution by institution. if an instuns has sold $100 million of cds but has bought back $80 million of cds, the net number is only 20, their exposure. the way the cds market works is in addition to collateral, there is bilateral netting. so if one of the issuers, meaning greece or italy defaults, what happens is the institutions go to each other, one by one, and they net it against each other. that eliminates to a large extent the danger of cascading through the system. there is not, however, what would be very good multi-lateral netting, which would mean you'd be able to net out the entire system across many institutions and then the net exposure would be your only concern. >> can i interject two things? first of

because realtime confidence is getting affected in realtime by higher gasoline prices. if you put a chart up going back to the last time we had $4 gas, there's no doubt there's a pretty darn good correlation between equity performance and the price of oil. if you look at interest rates that were in fact looking at a two-day chart, rates down. open it up to the week and here we are two basis points down on the day and two basis points down on the week and it could be the lowest weekly close since february 3rd which happened to be the first friday of february. if you look further at other issues, i think one of the key points you need to bring up is the dollar index. you can see the dollar index is at the lowest level since december, early december. well, that's because the euro's at the highest level since the same period. but it isn't all bad news for the dollar. it is closing about at a level on the dollar/yen, just shy of $1.81, the best since the fourth of july. >> we want to talk more about inflation sentiment -- i think sharon epperson is is joining us from the nym

>>> your realtime captioner is linda marie macdonald. >>> good afternoon, everybody. happy friday. i'm frank mallicoat. >> i'm grace lee. >>> we begin in oakland today. it has launched a new battle against prostitution but it's not going after the women this time. anne makovec reports the city is targeting two businesses it says caters to prostitutes. >> we think we have to take drastic measures to address a drastic problem. >> reporter: the problem is prostitution. the measure the city want to take would shut down two local hotels allegedly allowing it. the case is against the national lodge on international boulevard. this man who works nearby came to testify. >> i myself was approached by a woman last september. she came out of the national lodge mow tell and offered me sex for money. so wah they are doing isn't working. >> reporter: the city of oakland sued the national lodge in december 2010 under the city's red light abasement act. then in 2011 they issued a preliminary injunction hoping to improve security. but the city says this place refuses to clean up its act. no one at

>>> your realtime captioner is linda marie macdonald. >>> good thursday afternoon. i'm grace lee. >> hi, everybody. i'm frank mallicoat. an earthquake rattled the north bay a few hours ago. social media sites lit up with residents who could not stop chatting about it. the 3.5 quake was started about two miles south of vallejo. today's quake hit less than a day after another shook solano county, as well. gil diaz is live in vallejo with the residents who felt it. >> reporter: good afternoon. a whole lot of shaking going on in this part of the bay area the first around 6:00 last night and the latest at 9:13 this morning. workers at this church of the hill felt it pretty good. one described it as a loud pop. some pictures fell. nothing broke and no one was hurt. but having two quakes in less than 15 hours is nerve- wracking. >> well, a lit jittery, you know? i know several of us are going over our disaster plans making sure we have water and making sure our kids know where the rendezvous point is and making sure we know where the flashlights are and that kind of stuff.
