rebecca berg, national political reporter at real clear politics.hief political analyst, gloria borger. s.e. cupp and cnn politics executive editor, mark preston. would it be without precedent? i know it goes back to the '70s, for donald trump to continue to refuse to release his tax returns? >> he would be the first nominee since 1976 not to release his taxes. ironically, a lot of people will think it was ironic that it was richard nixon in '73 who first challenged his opponent and said you've got to release your taxes, this is important. he was being pressed on a tax issue. so he released all this is taxes. since '76, it's actually become something that candidates generally do as a matter of course. >> you saw the statement from mitt romney. >> yeah. >> which is a tough statement, among other things. hidden inappropriate associations, raising the possibility with foreign entities, criminal organizations, other unsavory groups. wow, that's a strong indictment potentially of donald trump by mitt romney. >> yeah, but this is what you want to know whe

rebecca berg joins us now. john steinberg as well. it is a business media site. focusing on younger folks. what do you make of this argument? certainly on the jobs numbers. it is not so bad. you look at where we were. we are a lot better now. that might be the case. if it is slowing down, if it is softening, what then? what do you think? >> none of the candidates have made a compelling argument. you have this and are missed stratification. they are either adding high level jobs into bits that did the jobs the president talked about. they do not come with a lot of benefits. ultimately, any kind of explanation from the candidate. >> all right. the start of a trend where the jobs are slowing, it was confirmed. it starts picking up steam. >> it undercuts the message that you have been hearing from people like donald trump on the campaign trail. especially manufacturing jobs. this has been a big part of his appeal. he says it would undercut jobs growth in this country. making what he thinks is a bad situation even worse. job growth actually pick up over the next few m

let's bring in national political reporter rebecca berg and peter beinart, contributing editor to atlantic media and our chief congressional correspondent dana bash. the protesters are out there and we've seen them now for several days. politically speaking, the fallout from these anti-trump demonstrations, good for trump politically or bad for trump politically? how does it impact the political process? >> i think politically, at this point, it's a wash because the people who are for him think these protesters are ridiculous. the people who are vehemently against him are in the middle of this and i really think at this point it's a wash. we'll see how this becomes a true staple going forward and how the protests play out vis-a-vis the actual rhetoric going back and forth between trump and presumably hillary clinton. >> a lot of people, rebecca, suspect this isn't just the beginning. we're going to be seeing this wherever trump sort of shows up. outside there are going to be protesters, especially in big cities, urban areas. >> certainly. and i wouldn't be surprised, given that donald trum

joining me to discuss this is rebecca berg with real clear politics.er-trump people who want to have an alternative to donald trump, is this man, this libertarian candidate, their best hope? >> well, as gary series himself said in that clip we just saw, he is going to be the only candidate besides hillary clinton and donald trump who is going to be on the ballot in all 50 states. he's the only one thee roretica who will have a path to victory. so just from a pragmatic standpoint, that's very important, and it's very interesting also that you now have a libertarian ticket in gary johnson and william weld who would be his running mate if they prevail at the convention this weekend that's comprised of two former governors, so actually some people with elected experience and i'm sure we'll be hearing a lot about that from them as well. >> because some people may not know exactly what they represent, what their issues are, can you kind of break it down for us, what their issues are compared to the other parties'? >> what sets them apart is gary johnson and
