. >> i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. we have been tracking moisture that's been coming along the south portion. tropical storms developing in the atlantic. we have had several in the last week. you can see the systems, along the intertropical convergence zone. moisture from this has been redirected through mexico to the west. we've had a lot of flash flooding because of the moisture flow due to a change of winds for arizona, new mexico and nef. they know it will be wet at the end of the summer because the wind shifts and brings the moisture up. a good way to see the moisture is looking at a satellite enhancing where it is. areas of dark green indicate the highest water content in the atmosphere. you can see the thunder storms, an energy exchange basically in the thunder storms near the equator, and you can see how it taps in, travels up through the south-west, but for the storm that brought the record rain around seattle yesterday - we certainly have a lot of moisture moving in with that from the south-west. we are still

. >> i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson.today we had a lot of monsoonal moisture in the northwest. when you hear the word monsoon you may think of india and monsoonal moisture coming through india and the heavy rain they get. monsoon definition is change in wind direction. they'll get through the first part of the year dry and temperatures drying towards triple digits. now they've got the triple digits in the southwest and the winds are changing direction pulling up a lot of moisture from near the equator. and the thunderstorms have been bringing in some extremely strong wind gusts. a lot of hail and we've mrs. had a tornado spotted. now the person that responded -- spotted this was near lake paris in southern california. they spotted an actual funnel cloud. it's yet to be determined if it's a tornado or just a funnel cloud. hail and wind reports moving through the central portion of the state along with temperature drops ten to 20°. the dakotas got most of the wind and hail today but coming up i'll tell you about more place

my name is jonathan betz. >> meteorologist: i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson.e're tracking a area of low pressure all day yesterday into the night with a lot of lightening and a lot of flooding. this shows the low pressure in the last 12 hours moving into the cascade mountains. moving partly across southern washington before it tracks up towards montana where we have severe thunderstorms popping up right now. in portions of western montana we're getting strong gusting winds, heavy rainfall and hail. now most of the rain that is coming from the storm in the course of the next is it hours is going to be focused along the canada border and even parts of canada, british columbia and over into the western montana area. the rain will move eastward but slowly. it will hover over idaho, montana and impact nevada. you see the area of low pressure, but note the direction of the spin of this counterclockwise low and know where we have had several tropical storms near the baja peninsula in mexico. those tropical storms have been pulled up and a lot of that moisture got pul

. >> i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson. today we had a storm basically right in the middle of the country. hot weather, 10 to 20° above the average for places like rapid city, denver, oklahoma into texas. but if you went to the east coast or the west coast, the story was cooling off and we'll continue that cooling trend on both sides of the coast. now for the east coast, this is where we're seeing temperatures already start to drop down, a much comfortable -- more comfortable i should say temperature in the east. we're expecting the temperatures to drop even further for specific areas into friday. lows overnight, friday, little bit chilly for pittsburgh, 46°, most of us in the 50s, but friday morning clear skies out there, this is where we're going to have temperatures drop in the valleys. any heat we get during the day is going to escape through the clear skies in the atmosphere so frost advisories issued early friday morning in parts of new york and northern maine we have a freeze watch in effect. this is cold canadian ai

. >>> hello, i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. a relief for those in the north-east as humidity drops and cooler temperatures move in. it felt nice and cool for a lot of folks, even in ohio, when it was warm - it still felt a little better. less humidity. cleveland, pittsburg at 76. heading to maine. go north and you'll get a little cooler. maine - you are looking at temperatures in the 70s now. portland, maine at 79. you will be cooler in the next couple of days. look at the difference in the colours of the map. note how it gets a little green or blue the further north you know. overnight temperatures will cool off. toronto - 53 for you. that will feel good. albany drops to 56. this is the beginning of a cooling trend on the way for another couple of days. we are, in fact, looking - by the time yes get to friday morning - for a freeze watch in northern maine. we'll get the temperatures dropping down chilly. the freeze watch, into the 30s. details on who else will cool off a bit and who will get a lot of rain, next. >> thank you.

. >> rebecca stevenson is up next.erica tonight with joie chen, i'll see you back here rat 8:00 eastern time on monday night. >> welcome back, i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson. we are tracking where the moisture is coming in the united states and it's interesting because we have a steady stream of moisture coming in along the southern half of the united states through mexico in the form of tropical depression number 8, swirling around and takes a turn and starts to head back to the east. what that's done for us is createa series of showers and thunderstorms, localized flooding and turns up into the southwest. even yuma, there was dust storms lowering visible to a quarter of a mile. thunderstorms up in montana we'll look at that in a moment. i first wanted to show that you we're going to continue with the showers and thunderstorms, working their way through the east to the west, not a typical direction that we always get our weather but when we start seeing tropical storms many times they do take a turn into texas an

. >>> i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson. we're tracking a cold system and it's spinning up a lot of thunderstorms bringing in very heavy rainfall. a lot of lightning too. the lightning is exactly what we don't want because this is where we have very dry conditions in the west. so we have fire weather concerns despite the amount of rain that's coming down. we're getting lightning strikes sparking new fires outside the very heavy rainfall. you can see plenty of warnings that have been popping up and off and on throughout the night and in the morning. we're going to see this through the first part of today before the storm system tracks just enough to the east that'll get mainly rain in the force of off and on showers. most of our heavy rain is across washington state and north idaho. seattlele you can expect a cloud the canes and cool day. most will be cool in the 60s as that center of low pressure if tracks in and it's going to come back as we get in to next week. now in the northeast right now we've got dry conditions but yo

but after the break rebecca stevenson will be here with your labor day weekend forecast. 7.35 raise up to 12.35 or 15. >> "consider this" will be right back. ♪ ♪ they presented the president withç] ♪ ♪ >> hi there, i am meteorologist rebecca stevenson. we have been tracking a storm, a little storm that just thought it could right off the baja peninsula and a very short period of time we saw tropical storm kiko, popped up right around 8:00 in the evening eastern time, and then within two hours, tropical storm kiko is almost a hurricane now. which means it's getting sustained winds building up to, it's gotta be 74 miles per hour to be a hurricane, but it's working on it. it's getting there. but the thing about the storm, as we take a closer look here, a little bit on the enhanced satellite it's not going hit land, we expect it to gradually slowly move to the north, northwest and stay out in the water. but what this will also do, is continue the moisture pump for the showers and thunderstorms up in to the southwest. so the desert southwest is getting a lot of these flood war

but after a quick break, your forecast with rebecca stevenson. >>> i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson. we have rainfall amounts coming down as quickly as one inch an hour and quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. severe thunderstorms are moving through the pacific northwest, and this is a place that doesn't normally get severe weather. already today we had a tornado by doppler radar spotted in northeast oregon that only averaging one tornado a year. now, we're watching this line of thunderstorms, and it is a significant line stretches across northern oregon and into southern washington. severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for a number of reasons. the heavy rain has brought flash flooding to all three states of washington, oregon, and idaho. boise, you've been getting wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. so these intense storms are tracking their way not only from the south, but they're moving out of the cascades towards the west. so it's an unusual direction for storms to take, especially when they're this powerful. be aware if you're in the pacific north

let's go to rebecca stevenson for a look at the weather. i hope that the storms are laying off colorado for now, ebeck. it's not good out there. >> it's not good at all. right where we have the flash flood warnings, too, is exactly where we have showers and thunderstorms come throughing. the amount of rainfall is not as much with these storms as last week, but still half an inch to an inch of rainfall easily within the storms and gusty winds. they're tracking through new mexico and also up into colorado. now, as we zoom in on colorado, what i want to note at a time about the storms here is they're attempts to shift a little bit farther to the east and tend to lighten up. that's certainly good news, because that rain is coming down as it does in the mountains on burn scars from wildfires we had last year. this is actually in new mexico. this is silver city fire. as we look at burn scars for colorado, the areas outlined in red, you can see the largest one is fort collins that burned last year. we have a number of burn scars where the water co

. >> i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. earlier we had landfall for a typhoon in china - one of 20 this season so far. in fact, when we look at the tracks, the majority moved into the area of china, bringing in so much rainfall that in the last month we had several reports in north-east china saying this is the most rain they have had - significant rain in 50 years or so with all the flooding, landslides. the last thing we want to see is another typhoon making land fall. see the tracks of these to. three were typhoon, the rest tropical storms - still packing a punch with the rain. looking at the satellite picture of the storm, hong kong international airport reported 2 inches of rainfall, wind gusts up to 55 miles per hour. scattered around the coast there's higher amounts and stronger wind gusts. mo moving to the radar and clouds - for the first day of fall there was snow in the mountains, high elevation, above 1800 feet. there's a bit of snow above 9,000 feet in colorado rockies. it will come down as snow up high in the m

. >> i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. still getting a few light rain showers and thunder storms in the parts of the south-west. not nearly as much rain fall as we had last week in parts of colorado. new mexico had heavy storms. we are adding on the rain totals. when we look at the high-river flows, they are in the 99th percentile in stream flows in colorado and new mexico, when comparing to historical high stream flows. there's a lot of water out there rushing down. a lot of the rivers hitting their crest. the flood crest is travelling down stream. we have record flooding continuing in parts of north-east colorado, approaching parts of nebraska. incidentally boulder, colorado, with all the rain in the last week, it is the wettest year on record - 2013. that's in seven days you had about 14 inches, close to 15 inches of rainfall in boulder. well, so far over 30 inches of rain is what's been totalled. and a big help in getting the moisture up to you is the tropical storms moving through mexico. we had a straight shot of tha

. >> meteorologist: i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson. we've had snow coming down in the mountains heavy at times especially in central idaho and western montana. where we've got plenty of warnings going on right now. early yesterday morning we had the snow come down around mount rainier. this is a sunrise mountaineer mount rainier up above 6,000 feet. the snow level has got to be fairly high to get snow to stick like this. any lower mountain passes and the snow was pretty quick to melt because the roads are still warm from summertime. as we look at u.s. 93 this is the pass in idaho. the snow levels tonight are down falling to 5,000 feet, and that is where we're going start to see snow accumulating. the valleys in western montana, butte, anaconda, georgetown lake, you're going to get a couple of inches of snow overnight. our concern is its wet snow and wet snow is heavy and can pull down power lines pretty easy. we'll watch for that and warn truckers, hunters, campers, you're going to have wet snow and it will be cold in the mountains ton

. >> i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. plenty of rain slamming into central florida. you have been getting record rain fall and cool temperatures. below average for parts of tampa, talahasi. flood watches in place through the first part of our day. we are still getting a lot of heavy rain fall out there. showers, thunder storms, and all the cloud cover coming in with the showers and thunder storms. it will keep the temperatures down in the "70s, to low "80s. i know this doesn't feel cool, and we are not expecting a fall cool down until later in november - it's about average when we feel the difference. we are watching all the water vapour and tropical moisture that was going into mexico and texas. it shifted direction and has been focussing in to florida, and that's why you get the record total rainfalls. where we have been dry, sunny and chilly, frost advisories for the north-east and michigan, a new storm is getting ready to come in. while arizona is in the midst of its first freeze of the season, we'll get arizona in on big action, along with california as the new

i'm metrologist rebecca stevenson. we had plenty of rain pushing into the west coast coast. a new side was bringing in so much side to the kaz cades that we had a delay in the seahawks game. that was because of a lot of lightening with a system working through aragorn and washington, and we'll get rain for western washington and org gone -- orgen. you can see from the probability map that the most likely spots where it will continue with rain, western washington to portland. one of the first thing that grabs your eye is south into mexico. we have a tropical storm in the pacific ocean moving to the north, and we are getting rain from the second hurricane ingrid. ingrid will cause problems. rain fall and gusty winds - we'll have problems with flooding, potential mud slides and we'll monitor this because this storm will move onsure through the course of morning hours into the day ahead. that storm system is also swinging up showers and thunder storms into southern texas. now we have a potential flood advisory. this is being issued for the texas coastline from corpus christy bay

. ♪ ♪ >> hi there, i am rebecca stevenson, meteorologist. moving in to the northeast and as we get going, low temperatures, mid to upper 40s in some places. especially around new york, up in to maine. in fact, as you get through the day today with the humidity gone and sunshine temperatures just barely reaching 68 degrees for albany. now, we do expect a few spotty scattered showers, a cold front is sweeping through and that is what's helping cool us off. and it's bringing in a few clouds from time to time. but by the time we get to friday morning, that is when we have clear skies and a lot of our valleys any of the heat we get during the day will escape up in the atmosphere. and that is why we have frost advisories in place, friday morning between 2:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and we have also got a freeze watch for northern maine, incidentally, the state of maine has altered its freeze and frost advisory timing, so you may want to check that out. it used to be two vicinities that the state was divided in to, now it is three. but we are definitely

still ahead a look at the national forecast with rebecca stevenson. stay with us. . >>> sit our first full day of fall as mother nature is trying very hard to balance temperatures. we're seeing temperatures drop quickly especially for the northeast. for winds are coming out of the west-northwest and we have clear skies so any heat we got today from the sun is going to go up their tpr* the sky and we will cool off for large portions of the northeast from new york, wednesday pain yeah, vermont it goes all the way over to michigan. temperatures will be chilly in the mid 30s. i want to note on the map, if you're closer to the water, we're going to stay right around that 50-degree mark and in up the ter 40s. you're going to have the cooler sport spots. so temperatures dropping here especially denver and a cool 45 for you and we're already bracing ourselves for cool weather in arizona. first breeze in the season for arizona. the other part of the story we're bracing ourselves for is a cold powerful storm coming in for fall. we have some wind watches coming

we'll show you where it's going to hit next. ç] center i'm meteorologist rebecca stevenson, record rainfallr parts of the pacific northwest as the storm system and low pressure center tracked onshore. now the rainfall has been over an inch and a half in seattle and getting close to an inch and a half for portland. all this rain coming down. you may say there is always rain in the pacific northwest, but this amount, this speed, at this rate with that much lightening we had yesterday and last night is far more than normal. this storm system will continue to bring rainfall to the pacific northwest for the weekend. but the amounts will not be as heavy west of the cascades. as we follow the rain system, we'll expect that to continue into the midwest. so the rain here is the only map i think show you because my remote control is absolutely not working. i'm here to tell that you that rain spinning around counterclockwise will track its way into montana. we expect it to bring in the risk of severe thunderstorms tomorrow. that means lightening. that means heavy rain at times and gusting winds and ha

. >>> and let's turn to rebecca stevenson to find out what kind of system can trigger the flash floodingike in. >> the last two weeks we have had a tap of tropical moisture coming up from the south. as it comes up from the south, it comes into the mountains. and there is an intense about of rainfall that comes into the mountains that we don't even measure compared to the low lands. you can see the city of boulder, marked by the parp l and dark purple. we know there's much higher amounts that fell in the mountains, ran through the screams and creeks, and went down into the city. this shows us in the bright greens where the most moisture is, and you can see the tropical moisture tap from mexico into colorado. and the winds are supporting this from the south, southwest, low-pressure is going to track very slowly eastward. as it does that, it is going to start to shift the winds westerly for colorado, and those winds will be a little drier and bring less rainfall. >> all right. rebecca thank you very much. joining us on skype are two people who live in the middle of flood zone in lion's colo

let's go to rebecca stevenson. >>> it is on the way. today, we had a lot of thunderstorms out there. as we were just mentioning that we had record-stage flooding for those three different rivers. now these three river, not only did they get to their record flood stage. some of them got to 60 above that hitting an all-time record when we talk about flooding. then we start talking about record rainfall we had for boulder, ko* colorado. when we start totaling the amounts stuff, it simple pressive. now right now we are lookinging at a radar that's showing us some scattered showers and thunderstorms that tracking through the rockies this evening. we did expect showers and thunderstorms. some of them grout half an an intofp an inch of rainfall it ice storm that we are expecting some second round of rain zhou stwhaers we're most concerned about. >>> when you total up one week of rainfall. almost 15 inches and clearly that's more in one week than we had for rainfall for the entire start of this year to september 8th. and then you start to think

people in boulder and those surrounding communities are looking for relief from the rainfall, rebecca stevenson? >> meteorologist: in eight days we had high temperatures in the 90s in ports of the southwest, and we have temperatures in the last two days falling as low as the 60s. you can see the high temperatures, they have dropped. that's a good thing. the showers continue up from the southwest. the good news is that the rain is not as an intense heavy as we had in the last two days. we've been seeing that tropical source starting to get cut off. we're continuing the flood concerns. three flooding rivers in colorado. that will continue tonight and we'll slowly see those recede. the other flood warnings that go into parts of idaho and wyoming are flash flood watches, we'll continue watching the rain as if moves farther to the east. >> we have new developments on the u.n.'s chemical weapons investigation in syria. say secretary general ban ki-moon say u.n. investigators found overwhelming evidence, and the secretary general has yet to see the report, however it will be deliveredded to him in new

. >> rebecca stevenson is up next with our forecast. >>> coming up on "real money," will the governmenti'll talk to a food truck owner in the los angeles area about that. and the government needs about 3 million healthy americans to buy insurance. and middle class wages are stalled. an increase in bonuses may be part of the problem. all of that and more on "real money." ♪ >> autumn is in the air. temperatures were chilly today for a lot of folks across the northern portions of the u.s. rain showers and gusty winds too. we're seeing the temperatures fall across parts of the northeast. temperatures right now are actually a little warmer in toronto than you were yesterday. sitting at 59 degrees. that feels rather cool when you have a breeze coming through, especially around the great lakes today. boston sitting at 61, and now we're headed into a chilly night. frost advisory going into effect around 3:00 a.m. a few spotty freeze warnings in place, but even the frost stretches over to michigan. so cool weather here, temporarily. we will warm up a little bit, but we are watching for more cold

. >> and with more on weather around the world, let's go to rebecca stevenson. >> that rain is circling around it. china has had more than its share of rainfall this year. in fact we were looking at potential flooding in northeast china. when we look at the total storms this year we have had 20 this year and three of them have been typhoons. they have brought in an excessive amount of rainfall. moving across china. this particular storm is going to continue its track right across that southern portion of china. when we look at rainfall totals we had amounts coming up to about two inches at our observation stations. some of those observation stations could very well have just been blown over and giving us poor reports. ing -- look looking at the satellite picture that noaa gave us, the storm well inland and still maintaining a circulation of moderate to heavy rainfall. we do expect some heavy flooding and landslides too in the southern portion of china. that's typhoons will continue. we already watch another tropical storm developing, brushing past taiwan. here in the u.s. we are talking

rebecca stevenson is in next with a look at the weather. and correspondents, the world's deadliest race. stay with us. >> we have hot weather in the midwest for record heat in denver, salt lake city. denver twice now you have hit your all-time september high of 97 degrees. that was set back in 1899. it's been awhile since you've gotten up to the upper 90 close to 100 degrees this time of year. the same thing for salt lake city, and houston in the mid 80s. you have some showers cooling you off in texas. you have quite a few showers in quite a few spots. montana and the dakotas with thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 60 mph. the wind gust heavy rain and the concern, too, the heavy rain is coming down on places that have already been burned by wildfires. burn scars, we call them. as soon as that rain comes down in a half inch an hour or an inch an hour, sometimes more than that, then we have flash flooding. nevada into salt lake city as well right around the southern portion of the lake. it's turning into a wet afternoon for a lot of folks and

rebecca stevenson has you covered in just a bit. stay with us. ç] >> >> well, we are tracking two storms on each coast of the mexico. it's impacting parts of the united states as well. in fact, flooding is a primary story for the united states, and we talk about our weather story. when we look at the satellite radar combined you see tropical storm manwel on the eastern coast of mexico. on the east coast we have hurricane number two, ingrid who will make rainfall. there's a lot of rain, it's a category 1 storm. 10-15 rain fall over the mexican mountains will bring mud slides. we are watching a storm surge, 2-4 feet e we have warns for southern texas, coast at flood warns from south padrae to the corpus christi bay. we are watching for the high surf and participation for flooding along the coastline as we are getting storms and showers swinging up from the hurricane. in colorado the winds shifted and are making showers pop up in places we don't want heavy rain fall. that would be where we have wildfire burn scars. where the wild fires

. >> stay with us, the weather is next rebecca stevenson. >> mexico has a tropical storm on either side. manuel and ingrid in the bay of campeche. we could see upwards of 25 inches of rainfall throughout the weekend. gusty winds and they're going to be concerned about mudslides . this sound like what colorado went through with extremely heavy rainfall. as we go to the national center of environmental prediction this is the computer model we'll look for the next 24 to 36 hours, the bull'bull's eye is folksed in nw mexico. we're still going to get rain showers and thunderstorms scattered throughout the weekend but the rainfall will not be nearly as heavy and showers and thunderstorms not as common as they were in the last week. also our story is about cooler temperatures. cold front is bringing chilly temperatures in the northeast. 30s and 40s in some spots, that will translate into high temperatures as well, but the frost is going to be in michigan and also wisconsin. >> you're watching al jazeera. i'm john siegenthaler. here are the headlines. residents in heavily flooded areas of color

after your break, weather forecast with rebecca stevenson. ] >> one of the bik reasons we've had all of the flooding in the southwest is we've tapped into tropical moisture. in fact we've got one particular storm, manuel that's targeted as we get into later saturday to move towards acapulco and oaxaca and we've got another one staying on the other side the bay of campeche. 10 to 15 inches are expected and mexico city is having the same problems that colorado has had with the mudslides and very heavily rainfall in the mountains. we hear the rainfall coming in cold front sagging south bringing you showers along the gulf coast but parts of texas are going to get rains from the storms so the to the south but we're losing that moisture tap to the south however we will continue with scattered showers and thunderstorms, to the west. the cold front we just talked about dropped temperatures down about 20° in some spots but the marine layer kept temperatures about 15° cooler today in the northwest. >> you're watching al jazeera. i'm john siegenthaler. here are the top stories. search and rescu

meteorologist rebecca stevenson joining us now with more. >> we are watching the storms.it's interesting because this year, it took a long time to get any hurricanes going. we almost made it to the all hymn time record for the latest. the first hurricane started. that date stands at 11th. now, we have hurricane number 2, hurricane ingrid. it's enhanced to show you the coldest cloud tops in the bright orange. the cold cloud tops indicate basically to you how many energy is powering up into the atmosphere. this is a machine hurricane and tropical storms for that matter. to balances the atmosphere, to send heat and towards the polls where it cools and circumstances back down close to the equator. we have this rotation going on right now. the problem is, is that we've got a storm on each side of mexico. each one is bringing significant amounts of rainfall. torrent y'all rain with gust couple winds, we anticipate several mudslides in the mexico area. but some of this moisture is swinging up and touching the tip near browns i would have around texas. for the next 24 to 36 hours
