let's go to rebecca stevenson. the storm is getting weaker.s mentioned the mayor is concerned about what could happen in new orleans. >> absolutely. precaution good to have around the gulf of mexico. hurricane season goes to november 30th. as we watch karen, we watched storm track from cuba up to the northern gulf of mexico. as previous models showed us it is falling apart and getting weaker. we are still going to get areas of rainfall that is locally heavy in places where we had 3-5 inches of rain. we'll add anywhere from 1-3. from louisiana, along the coastline of mississippi, alabama, and to the northern panhandle. i can say the forecast continues to show the showers over sunday and monday, tracking across the area. it's not as heavy yoi or windy as we expected. in fact we currently saw the tropical storm watch for florida drop. because it drops, we still have to be aware we'll have rip currants, some breezy conditions, and certainly rainfall in a saturated place. >> a lot of extreme weather across the country. as many as nine tornados hit

. >> i want to turn now to meteorologist rebecca stevenson. rebecca. >> we've had quite a bit of rainfall in india. devastation across parts of india due to mudslides flooding and the winds. winds were reported 125 miles an hour and a lot of roadways are cleared out of branches and debris but also buses and transportation flipped over by those winds. now we're seeing phailin fall apart, still plenty of rainfall into the northeast and into the northern portion of india. we are seeing issues from the amount of rainfall in this particular storm but it will slowly diminish. what isn't diminishing is rain for places like vietnam. the philippines have been hammered by tie 15 nari. as you can see in our latest satellite picture the storm starting to move towards vietnam. we are also seeing the first band of rain and the showers and thunderstorms start to approach danang. joint warning center for the typhoons is showing this particular track directly east. right now it's about 200 nautical miles offshore from danang. a lot of rainfall again to areas in

meteorologist rebecca stevenson. rebecca. >> this is the greatest satellite update, due to the government shutdown, we've had trouble getting right up to the minute pictures from nasa. the storm moved on shore, we know it brought significant storm surge at least five inches of water inland. as that inland area moved in these very low lying areas the particular eye of the storm did not go quite as far south as expected. so it didn't take in as many areas of shallow water as we'd expected it to. still we anticipate a lot of flooding, it is in the w wee hos in india. the winds over water had been 124 miles an hour so it made landfall as a category 3 and then it's just falling apart as it moves in because that wind runs to the ground causes friction slows things down so we get areas of very, very heavy rainfall. in fact we have places reporting well over seven inches of rain so far in parts of india and we expect the winds to continue and mudslides. so a lot of danger ahead here. another thing that we're watching is a par

for the latest on phaili nuchlt and other systems beginning to brew, let's bring in rebecca stevenson. >> we have had a significant amount of rainfall if phailin. one city inland from the coast, we are seeing 12.4 inches of rainfall reported there. other cities, anywhere from five inches up to eight inches of rainfall just inlands from the coast. as the coast is farther inland, we saw higher amounts. as this moisture and wind rides up into the mountains, it's giving an extra lift squeezing out extra moisture from the tropical system. we are now looking for the continuation of blooding and d mudslides on these steep slopes. we are watching one, nari, is tracking out of the philippines where it caused a lot of damage, a lot of flooding, heavy rain, headed towards denag vietnam. the actual lappedfall is not expected to be near danang or the eye wall is not going to move in for that city gu it is expected to be within the vicinity as it tracks toward vietnam we are looking at the path that the warning center is putting out just south of the city of hew. this will bring added insult to vie

rebecca stevenson has the weather after this. >> we are looking at the wildfires in australia, when we saw reports before their bush fire began that they were going to have an intense dry season that could bring raging fires across the area, it sounded very similar to what we had put out for united states. our wildfire season in the western half did fire up quite a bit this last year. and we have had a number of very large fires but now that fire season is coming to an end. we're heading into a cool season, in fact a cold blast more like winter air coming down from canada. as we look at our snowfall today, chi cheyenne, wyoming, io parts of kansas and nebraska, it's getting that cold out there as we have a storm system in the central portion of the states. mostly rain as it pushes east but you can see our snow cover here for the u.s., we've got mostly that snow cover up into colorado and wyoming where our highest snow is in. we are administrator seeing some ski resorts report some early openings. this cold air is bringing a hard freeze into cans, parts of north texas, this is cold air

. >> stay with us, rebecca stevenson is back with a check of the weather.nything.ç] . >>> i can't with the government shut dout noah.com is shut down we are getting some information. at al jazeera america we are utilising that to show you rain. first of all in florida or louisiana, especially today louisiana, down through the texas coast. we have an exceptional amount of rain and more on the way. this is where the highest probability is for the next 24 hours around new orleans. the showers are continuing while they may be decreasing alopping the texas coast we'll see them spin up for another day or two. we are tracking a storm further to the south, developing gradually. we'll track up to the golf of mexico by friday. we'll watch for a tropical development. otherwise the story will focus on the story moving into the fas iffic north-west. we have dop ler radar, but satellite pictures provided by nata, landsat. remember the colorado floods where we had a record amount of rainfall coming down fast in the mountains, and record flooding on the south platt river.

we want to go to rebecca stevenson to talk more about the weather here and overseas and frankly, all across the country. rebecca, what's going on out there? >> right now, jonathan, we are tracking another typhoon. we have been monitoring this typhoon from the western side of the states. we go across the pacific. the pacific has been very quietly in the west and they are enjoying beautiful fall weather. it's a different story. when we start to look at conditions in the south pacific. this particular typhoon is headed up from frsan francisco toward japan. rye now, it's a super typhoon in that it is equivalent to a hurricane 5, powerful wind gusts. not a lot of movement with it today. it's been moving west/northwest about eight miles an hour which is significantly slower than what we had yesterday. but yesterday, the storm was quite a bit weaker. now, it we are starting to see the joint warning tension center track this towards japan a little farther to the north. we are expecting to see it move up just to the south of kyoto by the time we get into thursday evening. this is a photo of pa

rebecca stevenson. more on that. >> yes. all of that rainfall coming down in the gulf coast or the gulf of mexico, itself. in fact, most of the showers we are seeing are scattered up through southern louisiana and this storm is just continuing to spin offshore, spin, rotate and weaken. so, now, being a tropical depression, karen still has the potential of bringing some tropical torm wind gusts, at least up to 40 miles an hour and it's going to be tracking on shore. you are going to see that happen in the course of overnight tonight through the day tomorrow into the evening. and it will go from louisiana, skipping across the coast line, bringing some heavier rains at times in certain areas for parts of alabama and mississippi and then to northern florida. now, this storm, this tropical storm has taken the tropical moisture and it's going to combine with a cold front and that is going to trek across all of the east coast. this is the timing for the rainfall. you can see it falls apartt through the course of monday. still, rain
