reda kriket was arrested in a paris suburb last thursday. the paris prosecutor has cited a, quote, "enormous arsenal of und in his apartment. give a pressns conference. -- gave a press conference. >> a major terrorist attack was prevented on french soil. that's what prosecutor franÇois molins explained at the press conference. he explained they found a proper in theenal where -- apartment reda kriket was renting in the paris suburbs. chemical weapons, handguns, fake documents, id -- all of that for an imminent attack on french oil -- soil. he explained this was the result of investigation that started in november, 2015. it uncovered a proper terrorist cell, that started with a man in turkey, who then gave the name of a man in netherlands, who then led to the arrest of reda kriket. they have not been able to find out more. despite six days of questioning, reda kriket has not had much about what he planned for exactly. for the time being, all we know is he has been placed in preventive detention, at least until the rest of the case continues.

he is linked to reda kriket for allegedly plotting an attacks against france.et's get the latest from correspondent jim bittermann. jim, what do we know about the french citizen arrested? >> reporter: boris, apparently when the dutch authorities moved in on his apartment, according to media reports, they found a cache of bullets. 7.62 bullets for kalashnikov rifles. 6,000 rounds according to media reports. that was immediately linked to the suspect here and now charged in paris, reda kriket, who when they searched his apartment, found five kalashnikov machine guns and bomb making materials. the two men, apparently, according to police reports, spent some time in 2014 and 2015 in syria. they're both known as petty criminals before that. they went through a period of radicalization and in syria for some time together. in any case, the prosecutor here says that they were plotting some kind of attack. he doesn't know what the target was, but says it was imminent. the things they had, including the explosive tatp which was used in brussels attacks and the paris atta

a source close to the investigation is identifying the suspect in custody as reda kriket.now to senior correspondent jim bittermann. he is in the paris bureau. jim, what do we know about reda kriket. >> reporter: he was born in a paris suburban in fact, was a convicted in absentia in brussels. what makes him interesting to authorities is the fact he was convicted with abdelhamid abaaoud, who was the mastermind behind the terrorist plots who bombed the paris stadium and bataclan theater in paris. the two of them were clearly in connection or had connections prior to the paris attacks. the interior minister said last night there is nothing to connect this man who was arrested kriket with the attacks in paris or brussels. he is involved in the circles. he has some connection. when they raided his apartment, the apartment he had been using in the northwest paris suburb, they found according to reports here, an arm and one weapon and explosives. they found some explosives. they are still checking it out. prosecutor is expected to give more information later on in the day. i thi
