they include budget and active votes of redevelopment agency and the trustee of the title and trust of treasure island. i believe that it is critical to have one or more t.i. residents on the board to ensure that island resident concerns are adequately heard and address. in 2006, the board of supervisors to liberated this issue at the rules committee, rejected an appointee, and asked the mayor to appoint an island resident. the mayor appointed owen stevens, who was unanimously appointed. commissioner stevens now serves as the chair. the board of supervisors received notification from the office of the mayor dated october 12, 2010, in regards to the appointment. for some reasons, mr. stephens was not recommended for reappointment. after a significant push back from residents, the office of the mayor e-mailed the press release inviting residents to apply for the board. given the office of the mayor selected as current appointments prior to inviting treasure island residents to apply and that this notice has only been out for two weeks, i respectfully request that the rules committee stro

the redevelopment project. it can't be for other purposes. we've been through for purposes other than the existing residents. dj party ben: south of market has changed more than almost any other neighborhood in san francisco in the past 10 years. lisa block: a lot of people, not just specifically the artists, are being pushed out. san francisco across the board, the rent is incredibly high. this area has seen a lot of development recently. a lot more interest to create market rate housing and above and even luxury housing. chris: there's been a lot of friction, most of that friction has to do with certain assumptions that are made on the part of the new residents. and rightfully so, they've moved into a neighborhood, they've just spent a pretty sizable chunk of change and they have expectations about what their quality of life should be. but unfortunately those expectations are trumped by the realities of inner-city living. lisa: i work with the recreation center advisory board here and there are a few of the n

supervisor dufty: redevelopment? >> in the instance of redevelopment, we are working in partnership, and they are looking at including child care in their projects. i think there was some concern around state requirements. their resources have some protection. i think our position is that if there is a project that receives significant city funding, like the trans bay, we would encourage them to build up child care. my understanding is that they're subject to the current impact fee. supervisor cook dufty -- supervisor dufty: it turns out that sometimes things are not going to happen, and then there are many problems, and there are big funding gaps for the trans bay project. there is a lot that has to be developed, and it is important for us to get some of the moral imperative, and this is to pressure those to provide child care in a thoughtful manner that can be home -- can be successful. can you talk about the economics and land cost versus the ability to operate? >> as supervisor dufty was explaining, it has been a

one is to serve as the redevelopment agency under california law. the second one is to serve as the trustee under the trust act. we keep forgetting about the need to have people serve on the board to understand and respect the public trust doctrine, and who are committed to working closely with the commission on the development of this project. that is one thing i see as missing. sustainability. one of the former members of the board had a broad view of the entire range of what constitutes sustainability, including water management, waste water, sewage, as well as climate protection, not just energy and those kinds of things. also, we forget the major asset are naturally occurring ecosystems. it would be great to have someone who knows something about ecological restoration. transportation can make or break the project. we need people who know about what to transit -- water transit and the aspects we will have to address. parking policy is a big one. there are other things i would like to see in the future. thank you. supervisor campos: thank you. i
