a redwood city preschool teacher is accused of physically abusing two four-year-old students. police arrested the 44-year-old woman this morning. monte frances is at the school with more for us. >> reporter: i spoke to someone at the jail. the teacher is in custody. the 44-year-old surrendered at the jail this morning. she is a teacher at this preschool. the abuse is alleged to have happen over a period of months andt was not sexual in nature. the police were informed of the alleged abuse by child protective services. police say the teacher teaches special education at a preschool here and teaches developmentally disabled children. police got an airs warrant yesterday. she was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and battery on school property. she has not been yet charged with a crime. there are unanswered questions about what is alleged to have happened. we are trying to get details for our report at 6:00. >>> right now we want to check in with the weather center. it was a gorgeous day out there. >> and tough to come into work. a day in the '60s and '70s outside. gorg

. >>> a teacher abuse scandal in redwood city is widening. eight workers are on administrative leave while the district investigates the way they handled the case of a teacher accused of assaulting a special needs student. terry mcsweeney is live with the details. >> reporter: the district is not saying what these eight people placed on leave do at the school. we are being told by sources that these are teachers and teacher aides they were not suspected of taking part in the abuse but believed to be part of the9@t cover-up. take a look at the campus at roosevelt school where the district runs a special needs classes for preschoolers. this is where special needs teacher allegedly slapped and kicked two students on a number of occasions from december of last year into january of this year. she also allegedly sent a boy crashing into a table, twisted his arm these children are four and five. one of the attorneys believes suspended employees knew about the violence, but did nothing. >> either there was a failure to train or there was some sort of
