in redwood city and he'll make his first court appearance. this afternoon. he is accused of beheading his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his one year-old child karina castro. take a look. we have photos of the victim. the family provided us photos. they're the ones that really identified her as being the one in this story. the family tells us that had a one year-old with him, but she's also a mother of a seven-year-old as well. the community completely shaken up by this brutal murder in san carlos. it happened on thursday when witnesses called police about an attack with a sword. but when officers arrived, they found karina beheaded outside her apartment. >> on magnolia avenue in laurel street. investigators quickly arrested down the street and charged him with homicide. there was a vigil held for karina over the weekend where the community gathered with the family to honor her and provide them some support. kareen, his grandmother tells kron 4 news she's having a hard time even starting the grieving process because right now their main goal

the 33 year-old is right now behind bars here in redwood city. he will make his first court appearance being arraigned today. it's a big day for the family because they have been going through a lot since this shocking murder of there of their beloved family member. 27 year-old karina castro. they say that jose salon a la to be headed her jose her ex-boyfriend and the father of their one year-old child. the 27 year-old family confirmed identity with us and said she was a mother of not only the one year old, but also a 7 year-old to 33, as i said, arrested on homicide charges. the shocking killing happened at 11 50 on thursday when castro was attacked outside her apartment on magnolia avenue in laurel street in san carlos witnesses, they flagged down deputies to alert them of the ongoing sword attack. yes, sword. and by the time they got there, though, police say that she had been they headed with that sore by lynn data. now there's also a vigil held over the weekend with family and community gathered to honor karina castro. the family told kron 4
