okay, and that happened in the southern portion south of redwood city. past san jose as you said that's been open for eight months. it has there been any evidence that shows whether it has helped achieve the goals that the set out to do right reducing some of the traffic increasing carpooling if you will and helping the environment anything to suggest that those goals are being achieved through this. yeah, i think we're still continuing to observe that i know that at, you know peak traffic that we still see vehicles that i'm traveling at 45 miles per hour, but you know the from what i understand that, you know, the express lanes are still performing well and keeping the flow of traffic going but you know, we're still we're still it's only been a year. we're still observing, you know, traffic patterns are changing and you know pre-covid highway 101 was extremely crowded and then coach, you know in the heart of covid, you know wasn't as many people on the road. so we're still you know monitoring, you know, the traffic flow really quickly on on 101 right no

just west of redwood city here in the emerald lake hills. you have a big spot and then really, as you shoot up the peninsula past san carlos, you know, you the areas that are between 101, and to 80 just littered with places where you have all these down trees. and then here's another hot spot. you know, west of hillsborough here, hillside drive chateau drive ralston avenue, all, you know, once again, more than 24 hours now without this is the airport and things get a little bit better. but san bruno and if you've ever been december know, you know how the wind can just how over those mountains there. so up in the san francisco, not nearly as bad fewer than 1000 customers in san francisco are without power in the north bay. but the other trouble spot in addition to the south bay in the peninsula is the east bay. so we'll check that out quickly again, we know that oranges here in the east bay hills, like we did last night at this time, but still, you know, place is littered with the power lines that are not functional and crews that are trying

we do have a couple of sprinkles around redwood city on over to union city and then around hollisterhe central coast. but all in all, we're pretty done with it for a minute. low pressure system anchored to our north continues to drag in with it. some really cold air our direction. why we've seen such low elevation snowfall and significant snow pack achievement. that changes, though, because we're replacing this cold arctic air with the resurgence of tropical moisture along with an atmospheric river. so this gets dragged in from the central pacific and plunges right into the bay area come thursday into friday. the problem here is not the rain for the bay area, but rain, higher elevations in the sierra on areas that have been seeing snow. this is going to wash away a lot of that snow pack feet of snow pack. we've been accumulating and results in the potential of flooding towards friday, saturday and sunday in those areas in those higher elevations. so that is the concern here in just a couple of days. as for today, we've got dry conditions. couple of sprinkles possible in the north bay

they could drop into the mid-30's but so far we are 42, belmont. 37, redwood city. we are looking at mid-30's in livermore with upper 30's in napa. with the wind it is a little bit stronger in some areas and that is why temperatures have not dropped so much. two to five degrees colder from the peninsula to the south bay and a frost advisory with us, probably colder for sunday morning. the next few hours we see temperatures climb into the mid and upper 50's with plenty of sunshine and then we will talk about when the next storm arrives. liz: overnight contra costa firefighters are investigating the cause of a two alarm fire at a senior housing complex. flames broke out on the second floor of this senior apartments. firefighters say that one person was treated for smoke inhalation. the damage to the unit where the fire started is substantial and some residents are displaced. it is unclear how many. it has become a familiar scene during a never ending storm season. we saw massive trees toppling over and landing on houses and cars and some of those even turning deadly.

i want to take it more video we have along the peninsula and this here in redwood city you do see the downed power lines, even a light pole down and pg&e crews did you see some of the mess all of the wind created. when it comes to the downed trees it felt like crews could barely keep up. there would be cones by the downed trees and so many tree branches on the roadways. there's also an electrical fire on el camino and rosedale involving downed power lines that burned a newly installed residential fence firefighters put out new fires at the spot as the electricity came back on >> throughout the day it was getting smaller and bigger and about one hour later you can hear the electricity sparking. and shocks were flying everywhere. at one time the electrical cord was hissing and making like an s in the air. obviously scary situations for a lot of people throughout the peninsula and the bay area. we mentioned the power outages, we have been looking at the power outage map. if you zoom in to your specific area it will give you an estimated time of restoration. a lot of the areas say there w
