let's check back in with reed cowan in concord, at the contra costa and solana food bank, where they are busy packing boxes. reed ? >> reporter: it is so great to be here. if you are watching from home and i wonder, how can i make an impact? how can i get a good feeling from volunteering or helping people out? this is how you do it. they are packing all kinds of boxes for people in need. i've got tomatoes and olives, i have got my manwich, and i'm sitting in a manwich of sorts. hi, guys. as we watch everyone doing all this work, we want to tell you about kpix 5's wilson walker. he is going to introduce you to first in line fletcher. fletcher is not only a volunteer doing what so many people are doing all over the bay area, filling up bags for food, but he also is a recipient of the food that goes in the boxes, serving 50-60 families a week. we like to call him first in line fletcher. >> me, i get started here at about 5:30 in the morning, on thursday, every thursday. >> sunrise in san mateo, second weekly food harvest estimation is still hours away and fletcher sanford is ready. >> i

reed cowan has more from the redwood empire food bank in santa rosa. >> reporter: all right friends. it is a good day here at redwood empire food bank. i have my friend rochelle here. the minute people walk in the door, they feel dignity. what is that so important? >> there is so much stigma attached with food insecurity. we wanted to create a safe space for people. not only to come and get food, but also to learn about food insecurity in our community. >> reporter: that's right. i almost feel like you have a home set up here. one of my favorite things is the sign that said i had to set my pride aside and ask for food. when you come here for the benefit of the volunteers, they are actively at work. when people come in these doors, what do you want them to feel? >> we want them to feel empowered. empowered to give back. we give them the tools to do that. and we also have a lot more going on here than people think. so many times people get blown away by the sheer size of the food bank. when you are serving 100,000 people a year, that's what you get. >> the thing i love about this, you

i'm reed cowan. >>> it is cyber monday, and anne makovec looks at the online shopping picture in the midst of inflation. >> reporter: this is black friday only when shoppers spent $9 billion and today, they are expected to spend $11 billion according to adobe analytics. you probably have an inbox packed with deals. amazon and other retailers are offering deals since last month, and that could lead to somebody to wonder if cyber monday is still a thing. analysts say that the short answer is yes. the national retail federation predicts 64 million american is big deal because it was engrained in the culture. folks expect big discounts on that day. come because a lot of reta are trying to move merchandise. when the pandemic-related supply change shortages eased, a lot of stores ended up with extra stock and they are willing to cut prices. over the weekend, there were 54% on electronics and 34% off toys. they expect as high as 32% on computers but if you are nod ready to pull the trigger. don't worry. the analysts expect the good prices to last into december. >> i got a toaster and a vacu

good afternoon, i'm reed cowan. the latest inflation numbers are out, there's good and bad news. kpix 5 's anne makovec is here to break it all down for us. anne? >> it is the first month since february that u.s. consumer inflation is actually under 8%. prices increased to 7.7% over the past 12 months. that is assigned the inflation pressures might be slowing as consumers grow a little more cost stars cautious. analysts say the federal reserve is not going to be happy until inflation comes down much more than that, and they will likely raise interest rates again, in december. what can we expect to spend in the months to come? >> we have seen peak prices in the housing market, those increases are tapering off. most economists are penciling in that house prices will drop nominally by another 8% from where they are right now. unfortunately, i think the cost of food will remain high for both thanksgiving and christmas hanukkah season. and maybe if you are someone who celebrates anything in january and february, prices are going to be higher than pick and budget a little extra money.

kpix5's reed cowan reports on how local food banks are doing just that. >> reporter: community kitchenur community station, kpix5. all right, so, we are redwood empire food bank. we have rochelle here. you are taking us in this kitchen here. you have a special key. it is a kitchen full of volunteers. we have noodles. you see the volunteers and you think what? >> i think oh my goodness. what brought you here? it is so incredible. we value every single one of our volunteers. we wouldn't be able to do what we do without them. >> reporter: there is a why here. and you see the food here and you know it will land on the table of somebody who needs it. what does that feel like? >> it feels great. i have been at distribution sites here. we are feeding the line with these foods. we are handing out prepared meals for them to eat on the spot. >> and you know, this is so vital to our communities. be it food banks or other places people can volunteer. we have a great community. when should people make the call to step forward and donate? >> you know, we can do so much. we have everything set up and

our reed cowan reports from concord where staff and volunteers are doing everything they can to address the problem of hunger. >> reporter: once again, coming to you from the food bank of contra costa and solano and think about something. i borrowed a dollar from my photographer here because we want the really show this as an object lesson. for every dollar that's raised, i'm going to ask my friend don here with the food bank. what does the dollar establish? >> that dollar will get two meals for our community members. >> reporter: $1 for two meals. and what i like to say is two moments right? that's two moments where people don't have to feel hungry. >> exactly. exactly. and it's really, really important that people, you know, if they can't donate. they come in and donate their time here as volunteers and they can come here and take the donated food we also get back to the communities. >> reporter: i want to show the volunteers here. this is group who showed up and we're taping this right now at the dinner hour. so think about that for a moment. these people could be at their own tables
