virginia. it's going to be somewhat active with the rain and maybe a rumble or to of thunder. temperatures in the low to mid- 60s. we're still 72 in town. 73 in reedville and 70 in newland from our weather watchers. outside on our michael & son weather camera, cloudy skies. 72 here at the noon hour with winds south, southwest at 14. that's bringing in the low level moisture. it's also bringing in some of the warmth we've had where nighttime temperatures stayed in the 60s. you can see a wider picture, a push of the showers and some isolated thunder moving north and east. behind it cooler, drier air coming in behind the front. that's what's going to move in for tonight. south and east of town we're also worried about the threat, maybe a strong thunderstorm or two especially -- actually, this is even better news. earlier this was in southern maryland. not really concerned about the severe weather threat. that's good. but we are looking at some nice weather once we get past today. today the yellow alert, 73. scattered showers. isolated thunder for the afternoon but nicer tonight as we dip into the 40s to around 50. cool tomorrow but a good day, 66. a few c

virginia-north carolina boarder now. still some rains just getting into the outer banks in northeastern north carolina. raining heavily in norfolk. our weather watchers in reedville over five inches of rain already since yesterday. 3.2 overnight. you can see how the heavy bands of rain continue to move off toward the west. here's the latest on sandy. hurricane with winds of 85 miles an hour. gusting to 105. pressure down to 946. this is stronger by 4 millibars than it was three hours earlier at the 2:00 advisory. that is a sign of rapid intensification. 90 mile an hour sustained winds at 2:00. expecting even further strengthening. the question is it 90 or 95 as it comes ashore tonight at about 11:00 p.m. just south of atlantic city. on this track even at 2:00 75 mile an hour wind. by 2:00 p.m. it only weakens to 60 miles an hour winds. that is a long time to be battered by damaging wind gusts along with the heavy, heavy rains that we'll be looking at as sandy comes ashore. i mean rains could be in excess of six inches here in the metro and more east. it could be a foot or more in some spots. here's a look at the winds and rains. hatteras 30 feet. virginia beach 2
