reeves was an eight year veteran of the force and a part-time fire fighter. up to this point saidel has maintained his innocence but money change the plea to guilty. >> mr. saidel wanted to accept responsibility today for his conduct that resulted in the unfortunate and horrible result that took place back in july of 2012. >> reporter: saidel pleaded guilty to the charges of aggravated manslaughter and aggravated assault. he will believe a sentence below max full for each charge to not exceed total of 20 years. >> are you pleading guilty to these two counts because you are guilty. >> yes. >> reporter: state dropped some of the initial charges but prosecutor jennifer mccray says that does not mean zdybel will get off easy. >> we will talk more about that at sentencing. >> reporter: there were more than a dozen of reeves police officers in court to show support for reeves family which sat in the front during the hearing. they were with the reeves after the court hearing. >> it is an important important step in the process. we have gotten a guilty plea. we are e

reeves your experience was a little different at the time the war broke out. what are your memories? >> for me, it probably took away -- since my birthday was the next day, i probably didn't appreciate all that attention to pearl harbor. but it impacted us, because i have three older brothers, so it was something that we were very aware of the significance of -- it was a big deal. >> i was playing in the flower bed in the front yard, digging, mother came out and told me that the japanese had attacked and it sort of registered as a big thing, but got even bigger because dad was preparing a christmas lighting decoration for our house. he ordered it to become a v for victory. he asked me whether the morse code was three dots and a dash or three dashes and a dot. i told him it was three dots and a dash. we won second prize in the city. i began as a war profit ear. >> your three dots and a dash reminds me of something i didn't learn until recently. during the war, the bbc used the opening refrain of beethoven's fifth. they're using the german composer to signify vi

richard reeve has more with this story. kendis, wedace, -- are learning that police are considering this an apparent suicide. somebody saw the car go into the water, and apparently, police were called. police boats and dive teams went ofthe river. we are just off lady bird johnson park near the gw parkway. now, we do not know where the car veered off of the parkway. we do not know at this point if it was a man or a woman, but our newsgathering partners at wto he spoke to a new jersey man on a boat. they saw the car go into the water. it had not submerged yet, and i started taking photographs as then wentng down, and about 90 degrees and completely submerged. i did not see anybody go up. >> he saw the vehicle go into the water, and there was a silhouette of a person in the driver's seat. subsequently, we located the vehicle and recovered one person who has been declared deceased. several hourss a long search. the car plunged into the water about 11:15, and they finally recovered the car at about 4:00 this afternoon. it is a

he had this long relationship with christopher reeves. he attended the premiere of "good morning vietnam." that with would earn him an academy award nomination. after his accident that left him paralyzed in 1995 it was robin williams who helped nurse the actor's spirit. he showed up at the hospital dressed in scrubs head-to-toe and reeves recalled the interview from 1998. >> i was so struck by your obvious deep, deep friendship with robin williams at the creative coalition event. >> he was the first one to show up down in virginia when he was really in trouble. he came here one afternoon and just -- thank god i wear a seat belt in this chair because i would have fallen out laughing. in the middle of a tragedy like this, in the middle of recuperation, you can still experience genuine joy and laughter and love and anybody says life is not worth living is totally wrong, totally wrong. >> this was as christopher reeves was going in for surgery doctors said he had a 50/50 chance coming out of it and he was on his bed and the door forces open.
