senator harry reid did. i cannot tell you how much it made senate republicans want to slow things down even more. some democrats say they could not have slowed it down even more. but said republicans reacted to -- nuclear option by saying senate republicans reacted to the nuclear option by saying we will cooperate even less. the question has been, for mitch mcconnell, because he was opposed to that move, will the reverse it? will a vote to put the rules back to the way they were? it is something he said will be discussed. he said he wants to rinse it to regular order, give committee chairman there power back, "to amendment. -- open up the floor to amendments. there are political reasons to think that will happen. whether or not he sets the rules back, i am not sure. the one thing that is different this time around for harry reid as minority leader and republican majority leader, there is a democrat in the white house, not a republican, so it will be different in terms of the decisions made and how they are v

harry reid will now become the minority leader. faced a little opposition, namely from claire mccaskill, joe manchin, who red state democrats who felt they were not being listened to enough but for the most part that stays the same over there. on the republican side, no surprise, mitch mcconnell will be the next majority leader. they had an election where no one had to cast a ballot. he was unanimously approved. there was no awkwardness there. and then on the house side, a few feet away from me, house speaker john boehner is expected to be re-elected. no real surprises there. so i guess the big news would be elizabeth warren ascending into the leadership in a newly created role. that's what we expect to see, joy. >> yeah. i wonder if mitch mcconnell had to go to the senate infirmary to detach the smile. i'm sure he was exceedingly joyful to get that new role. let's go to the house side and talk about keystone which apparently is coming sooner rather than later. what do you know about that? >> reporter: right now the keystone vote t

reid, the speaker, and ted cruz, too. we all ought to see what areas of agreement there are, and see if we can make progress for the country. i like to remind people that divided government is not unusual in this country. it happens frequently more often than not since world war ii. i don't think it means that they don't want us to do anything. i think they want us to look for areas of agreement. regan never had the house in eight years. clinton did not have the house or senate in six of hit eight years. i can think of four session things done. reaganen and tip o'neill saved social security for a generation and did the last comprehensive tax reform. we need to do that again. bill clinton and republicans balanced the budget three years in a row. we ought to start with the view that maybe there are some things that we can agree on to make progress for the country. from an institutional point of view the senate needs to be fixed. i made a speech back in january not widely covered, probably shouldn't have been widely covered,
