having said that, this statement put out i don't think is exactly what harry reid was looking for. it condemns the violence, it also says the democratic party has a choice, as if they are challenging the dnc, it can open its doors and welcome into the party people prepared to fight for real economic and social change and people willing to take on consolidawall street corporate greed and wall street and challenge the status quo. it talks specifically about the violence that has happened. he said, within the last few days, there have been a number of criticisms made against my campaign organization. party leaders in nevada claimed the sansers campaign has a quote penchant for violence. that is nonsense. our campaign has held giant rallies all across the country including high crime areas and zero reports of violence and goes on to talk about believing in non-violent change. when we speak of violence i should speak months ago in the nevada campaign, shots were fired into my campaign office and my campaign staff office was broken into and ransacked. you can see the level of tension tha

>> reporter: it's a completely different perspective than we heard from harry reid. if he was looking for a cumbaya statement, they didn't get it. they denounced the violence, they called for calm before the convention happened. he's said afterwards that he does not condone any kind of violence. having said that, they also say that they understand what has motivated the frustration, what they call high levels of frustration. chris, i spent the last hour on the phone with two of bernie sanders' bigger supporters, one his campaign manager jeff weaver who told me, quote, they ran rough shot over him, meaning bernie sanders, with the way the rules played out at that convention in nevada. and he said that any suggestion that there was violence that was condoned by the sanders campaign, and i'm quoting jeff sanders here, they want to use this as a pretext for mistreating us at the national convention. you can see the level of frustration, tension between the sanders campaign, clinton supporters, harry reid, debbie wasserman schultz is only escalating over there. and then h

let's play that moment. >> well, after i heard that senator reid, that leader reid had had a conversation with senator sanders and he publicly announced that he felt that senator sanders was going to respond appropriately and issue a statement, i was comfortable that, you know, one conversation was enough. unfortunately the senator's response was anything but acceptable. it certainly did not condemn his supporters for acting violently or engaging in intimidation tactics and instead added more fuel to the fire. >> and, phil, we do have sanders' response here. he does say that he condemns violence, but he also went on to talk about how the system is just completely broken, he thinks, and he understands their frustration. not the full-throated condemnation of violence they were hoping for. >> right. and they feel he hedged a little, and parsing words, looking at paragraph three of a lengthy statement, all that stuff, but still are digging in saying it should have been one line, two sentences condemning the entire thing and moving forward. that's the issue right now. bernie sanders isn't will

all that said, reid is not the only senate leader who can throw a punch.leader mitch mcconnell in his new memoir says his rival reid, quote, has a dr. jekyll and mr. hyde personality. he can be thoughtful, friendly, and funny, but as soon as the cameras turn on or he's offered a microphone, he becomes bombastic and unreasonable, spouting things that are both nasty and often untrue. this lack of restraint goes against what's expected as a party leader. these two have so much history and bad blood between them, taylor swift could write a breakup anthe about it. >> my friend the majority leader is going to be remembered as the worst leader of the senate ever. >> senate republicans almost came within hours of shutting down the department of homeland security. >> despite many reports to the contrary, the the two senate leaders swear that they're friends, or at least frenemies. >> there's a tendency to think you can't have political arguments without personal animosity. i don't have any toward my friend. >> uh be at least they've managed to avoid actual physical

har harry reid is furious at bernie sanders. he's friends with him. he believes the sanders campaign did not do enough to tamp this down. so look for senator sanders to address that night. he is going to be coming here to california. he believes that he still has a slim chance of winning. he's trying to win states up until then, but june 7th is when california votes. bernie sanders competing so aggressively here for that. the reality is what is causing all this anger is hillary clinton is winning. she's not going to reach her magic number of 2383 tonight, but her campaign believes she will get closer to that and could reach it before california. they are holding out of a possibility for a win in kentucky. she's been campaigning there more than she has in several weeks even as she turns her attention to donald trump here. so the clinton campaign not having any events tonight at all. they're trying to pivot and move beyond this. what happens in kentucky tonight if she gets a win will be a moral victory for her as this race goes on for about a month long

a lot of people are getting involved here including harry reid and the dean of nevada. this maybe a general election for the democrats. nevada is one of the most swing states in the country right now. joining us now from las vegas is our friend, john rolston. from what you can see close up of what happened in this convention, the national press, do we have an accurate view of what went down and how big of a deal it was? >> beyond the allegations of people being cheated and chairs being thrown and violence and etc. they already sued the state party over some deadline changes that was quickly thrown out. harry reid talked to bernie sanders the night before and got sanders put out a unity statement but that was not going to do any good. they called the chairperson of convention of dictator because they don't get their way. their behavior, this is a small subsidize of the sanders' supporters was outrageous and even at any convention i have been. when barbara boxer announced she was there to speak for hillary clinton, all the sanders stood up and a lot of them started booing
