joining me now is reverend frank reid, bishop frank reid, bishop at the african methodist church in jacksonville, florida. bishop read, thank you for being with us. you and i go back decades in this kind of more. the mayor of jacksonville pointed out that the shooting came on the five year anniversary of another shooting at a gaming tournament in the city. yesterday's gunman was inspired by that 2018 shooting. all right we were marching against hate and washington yesterday. to start with your support and blessings on the march, tell me how the community in jacksonville is doing? i saw that two pairs are taking place today. how are people coping with this tragedy? >> people are coping through prayer. through supporting one another in positive conversations, and in planning. planning for where we go from here? to use doctor king's fourth and final book that he wrote. seeing the chaos as an opportunity to redeem the soul not only on florida but to redeem the signal of america. >> the jacksonville sheriff has said that the 21-year-old shooter intended to kill black people. the shooting comes just a

so when i got out, harry reid was a really good friend of mine. senator harry reid.l schools in the federal prisons. i offered to put up the first million dollars. unfortunately, senator reid passed away from pancreatic cancer. then i got introduced to an organization in las vegas called hope for prisoners. and a former sheriff there, bill y young, had introduced me to it. it's the best reentry program in the united states. it's been there since 2012. they only have a 7% recidivism rate, people who go in this program. i got involved with john ponder who runs that, my wife who got involved and we've made some resources available. we've just now -- we're putting vocational schools into the nevada state prisons. we worked that out with governor joe lombardo. you know, the inmates who qualify, they're going to get job training in electrician, plumbing, truck driving, things such as that. when they come out of prison, where i think the real generational change is here, the parent is no longer a career criminal. so when a child looks up and their parent is, you know, an el

first, cnn's paula reid starts us off. paula, what is the latest we know about logistics tomorrow. >> anderson, we expect the former president will travel here to washington to attend this hearing in person, even though he did have the option to do this virtually. now, this is a courthouse that is used to dealing with vips and people with motorcades, so it is entirely possible that we may not see him at all during this court proceeding because there is a garage underneath this courthouse where most vips or people who want to avoid the media can easily pull into. and of course there are no cameras in federal court. once he's inside the courthouse tomorrow, he's effectively under arrest. he'll be processed like any other defendant, but we do not expect he will have a mug shot taken. this issue came up in the manhattan appearance and the florida initial appearance. mug shots are for when a suspect goes on the lam. he is, of course, one of the most recognizable faces in the world, so they have not been taking mug shots of him.

i'm jason johnson in for joy reid. fulton county district attorney fani willis appears poised to issue a charging decision on donald trump's alleged efforts to subvert election results. at this hour, a grand jury in atlanta is still hearing evidence, and the presiding judge's courtroom remains open. it's a sign that the grand jury meeting today is trying to power through the remaining testimony ahead of a vote and potential hand out of indictments tonight. many signs pointed to willis moving faster than initially expected. key witnesses in the probe were spotted at the fulton county courthouse, including two former democratic state legislatures as well as journalist george chidi who was subpoenaed for witnessing a meeting at the georgia state capitol where trump supporters signed documents falsely claiming trump won the election. chidi told nbc news he was called to appear before the grand jury today after previously told he didn't have to show up until tomorrow. he also posted on social media, quote, change of plans.

first, quickly, paula reid is on the legal maneuvering today. what is expected to happen friday morning in d. c. federal court? >> anderson, this is a significant hearing. this is the first time that trump's defense attorneys and special counsel prosecutor would appear before judge tanya chutkan. the last hearing was handled by a magistrate judge, and chutkan is the one who is going to handle all of the hearings up until a likely trial. now, on friday, both sides will have the opportunity to make their arguments about what they think the rules should look like in this case for handling, and publicly sharing any sensitive information. prosecutors want broad protections, defense attorneys are seeking something more narrow. protections only for really sensitive information, which they argue would be more in line with what has happened another january 6th cases. judge chutkan is overseeing dozens of cases related to january 6th, she is an experienced judge, and on the bench for about a decade, and it appears, anderson, based on her scheduling orders

. >> paula reid is live outside the fulton county courthouse. we now have the 98 pages.have the former president and 18 associates here. what happens next? this is now all at this point. >> reporter: well, phil, the next step is surrender and the district attorney, fani willis, gave them to next friday at noon to arrange their surrender. then there will be an initial appearance. a little bit different than what we have seen if federal court where they have initial appearance, arraignment in one fell swoop. it will take a while to go through the process with 19 different defendants. now, we fully expect the former president will cooperate here in terms of the surrender, going through the process. after that we expect many legal challenges. the first i am told is a challenge to jurisdiction and attempt to move this case from fulton county to the federal level. now, one of the biggest advantages that would potentially give the former president is dprrawing from a broader jury pool instead of just heavily democratic fulton county. >> can you lay out bruce willis' case here.
