reilly? >> as you know, the environment of prince william sound is an extraordinarily rich one in terms of sea life, in terms of bird life, in terms of sea mammals and commercial fisheries. we want to restore it to what it has been. it has obviously suffered a very serious blow. we have no way of knowing or assessing at this time how enduring the impact will be. the president has directed that i coordinate the planning for the recovery, the restoration of the ecology of the sound, the national oceanic and atmospheric administration is undertaking the ecological assessment. it will probably be some months before we have a preliminary idea of what we're looking at here. the overall noaa assessment will take about three years. one of my first jobs is going to bring to bear on this problem a group of scientists. we are looking around the world for the very best scientific resources that are available, people who have dealt with significant oil spills before, and we want to bring that expertise to
