as director reiskin pointed out, we have a long way to go and we got to get that across the board. comparing non minority routes and minority routes, they're about equal so we have radio, we have cross towns and community routes and we have the express routes and the non minority and minority lines pretty much go together. for vehicle head ways, we have policy head ways or minimum head ways that were approved a while back. we have them for radios and cross towns and expressed routes. we did find an impact here. for our cross town routes, 63 percent of minority lines are within those policy head ways and 97 percent of the non minority routes are at those policy head waves. that's a big difference right there. why is that? i know julie has been talking to you about this idea of rapid, local, feeder, express, so our current classification routes is based on a system that was set up 30 years ago and routes are defined if they go downtown or not and not what roll they fill in the network. we have radios and we have cross towns. but what that means is that we're comparing lines like the

reiskin said the task force was created by the mayor and we have members of the task force who represent the operators in the area represent business and labor advocates of transportation of streets head by transit of course and we are trying to come together with consensus to identify the needs for transportation in san francisco and develop an investment plan and come can up with a planning strategy in order to make that a reality at least in part. with that, the task has been coordinating to the transportation authority. we have looked at the county wide plan. we've reviewed the mtct plan bay area to determine what the needs are for transportation. in taking a look at the needs assessment, as you know the organization of transportation services that you are in charge of are vast as director reiskin said in $13 billion. they're in repair or need improvement. we've also learned from the planning department and from plan bay area about the future needs and the estimates are that by 2035, a 93 new housing units will be built and 191 new jobs will come to san francisco and that our populat

thank you all for coming out today i'm ed reiskin i'm the director of transportation in san franciscoappreciate you all coming out. what we're here to talk about is safety. about a year and a half ago the board of supervisors adapted a strategic plan identifying transportation safety as the number one goal for the 6 years of the strategic plan and that will continue to be our goal. the safety of the transportation system is walking in the streets and driving a bus or riding a bike. i think the good news is that san francisco jefferson is a safe city and a muni is a safe transit agency. we're starting from a good place but there are some areas where there is work to be done. in the area of crime most types of crime are low and continue to decline on the transit system. there's a couple that are going if in the wrong direction. we're going to be talking about that today. the other piece of good news we have a mayor that's focused on public safety. in the last public budget had a great stepping up the police department. he's made a priority to forge partnership with the city family insur

that up to agrees to improve and just so happens while we're working together i want to thank ed reiskin and the mta working with our police department to obtain a grant of $1 million to focus on our transportation corridor. so today was to announce the program but we've already been working on this program in a kind of experimental way to see the results and thanks to the mta and the police department working together we compared the data and we began in the month of september we had over 51 robberies that had to do with on muni and in and around the stations. as a result of additional officers that focused on the muni routes the month of october that 51 robberies changed into 9 robberies. on those muni lines. larceny and the same thing people stealing things maybe not off a perch but that was totaled tolarecy reports on the muni lines and were reduced to 26 in the month of october when those additional officers were played on line. that's a drastically demonstration of people working together and getting in grant and - well, thank you. thanks again. and so that's an important statistic

. >> any other comments, director reiskin? >> i would concur with what he said and it is great to bring this forward now, and i think that with the phase one, we should shift the focus of this board to phase two, and when we reemphasize what scott noted with regard to last year's mlu, that this project extending cal train and high speed rail to the transbay center, is the top priority in the region along with the bart to san jose and i think that was, as scott said really significant as was the designation of this as a project to secure the next round of the new starts funding and reemphasizing that the northern terminal of high speed rail will be at the transbay transit center not at fourth and king and i think that is, i think that is significant. and it was a significant statement from the region and i think that it is certainly in san francisco, in the region's best interest and we need to be working towards getting there. so, i think that obviously there is a lot that was covered in that presentation and it was great. and
