and as bill was reminding me, it's a moot point to victims, who we were traited the attack? just that their loved ones for injured or, god forbid, killed. a witness joins me right now. bruce, where were you and what did you see? >> well, neil, i was in a building directly above where we think the explosions went off. i was at 667 boyleston street directly across from the finish line. i was on the speck spectator sit on the fan side. i saw -- well, i was sitting on a couch. the first explosion blew me off the couch. i was at a postrace party, i yelled at all the party to get to the back of the office. once they were all secure in the back of the office, i hurried down the stairs to the street. i was on the street about 30 seconds to a minute after the initial explosions, and i saw broken glass, i saw, you know, i saw bloody, open wounds, i saw people kind of running around in confusion. neil: now, um, obviously the explosions were very close together, and these other -- certainly the one at the jfk library was sometime later. at that point when you heard the multiple explosion

it reminded me of the people of new york the way they handled it. the fact that the two primary actors-- possibly sole actors but maybe not-- have been arrested so quickly in what was a very, very efficient law enforcement operation. that helps a lot. it helps even with the families. you see even the young boy's family. they put out a statement congratulating law enforcement at a time of great grief. this helps. so i think there are some very positive steps that have happened here. >> schieffer: what's different about this situation and what happened on 9/11? >> well, you know, for me this reminds me more of the attack in london back in 2005. unfortunately i lived through that, also. i was a half block away from the liverpool station when the first bomb went off, and i spent a few days at tony blair's request getting involved in that. it reminds me more of that kind of an attack. a lot of similarities. you have people who had become citizens-- in that case in the u.k., here in the united states-- citizen who appeared to have been radicalized after p

a lot of times you come up with something and you say, that reminds me of -- something. it reminded of some place i was, the desert. sometimes it works the other way. you take a walk and your mind has this image. you start to translate that, as a visual image, or tactile experience, into something musical. how that happens is difficult to explain, but it certainly happens. >> it is mysterious, and to tie it back to science, i had a graduate student at uc-berkeley who came to work with me at mcgill. for his doctoral dissertation, he wanted to study the extent to which we can understand what musicians are doing by looking at them, observing their movement. it is worth pointing out that there cannot be any music without movement, no sound without movement. sound is the molecules in the air vibrating in particular ways. there is no sound in a vacuum because there are no molecules to vibrate. all sound, including music, has to begin with some motion, movement. in the case of movement, -- music, it is the body moving, somebody pressing a key, striking, blowing, plucking. even s
