the ohio republican party endorsed jim renacci, in large part because jim renacci can defeat sherrodecord defeating incumbent democrats. he has done it back-to-back in races for congress. he is resonating with voters. he is instrumental in passing tax reform as he sits on the house ways and means committee. he has been supportive of president trump's agenda. as you know president trump endorsed him last week. melissa: yeah. >> president trump was here in cleveland on saturday and said i need jim in the senate. i need him to help me pass my agenda. melissa: yeah. how tough of a fight do you think that is going to be? how much support does sherrod brown have or do you think he is vulnerable? >> i think sherrod brown is vulnerable. 16 of the 24 counties sherrod won in 2012 flipped for president trump in 2016. those are some of the key counties in southeast parts of ohio, that was coal country, that were grappling for jobs. they're seeing a turn around in ohio because of republican leadership, not only in the statehouse, in our statewide officers, but because of president trump. and sher

guest: the most likely candidate is jim renacci, a congressman from northeast ohio. earliere of trump's supporters, and trump asked him to get in the race to take on sherrod brown. another person running today, a couple of people, but the other contender, his name is mike gibbons. the interesting thing about mike earlys is he was also an supporter for president trump. he made hundreds of calls for him, raised more than $1 million for him, and actually got in the race to help president trump, but trump backed renacci. host: has governor kasich gotten involved in this contest at all? guest: not really. his campaign operatives are getting but generally tired, some consultants. there are some more moderate republicans or anti-trump republicans behind him. host: a lot of the national headlines are focused on today's primaries being a test to president trump's influence. how popular is president trump in ohio? guest: he has done reasonably well here compared with other states. he won by eight percentage points here in ohio, which is kind of a lot. there are a lot of workin

to the polls, vote for jim renacci.cci pulls this off, close to $5 million in cash whereas sherrod brown has over $11 million in cash. if renacci gets the nod to be the candidate, more money will be coming in. when you talk about sherrod brown being vulnerable, this is a democrat who supports president trump's trade policies especially when it comes to the tariffs on aluminum and steel because cleveland, sherrod brown, ohio, that is steel country. so sherrod brown is saying he's with president trump and, in fact, when those tariffs were announced, sherrod brown put out statements saying i am with the president. renacci is on the house ways and means committee, they brought us tax reform in the house. sherrod brown on the senate finance committee, when he was slapped down by orrin hatch. if the two are going head-to-head, you're going to see commercials that show orrin hatch slapping down sherrod brown and renacci making claims of tax reform. back to you. neil: i'm glad i did clarify he had not gotten the endorsement of
