renato, what do you think about this? there are so many charges at play here, the jury able to make a lot of progress as we await to hear this fifth verdict when it comes to dominic pezzola, but what do you think overall of what's come out so far? >> well, first of all, this really looks like a very careful jury. i think it gives you some newfound faith in the jury system. it's clearly a jury that's very carefulfully consly considering evidence and the charges. i think it's going to help these verdicts be upheld on appeal -- >> renato, i am so sorry to interrupt you. i want to go back to katelyn right now because she has the news of this other verdict that has just been read. katelny, what can you tell us? >> so this jury has found dominic pezzola, a member of the proud boys not guilty of seditious conspiracy in this case, so they're splitting in this major case where they are deciding that the four leaders of the proud boys, the men who were in communication before the capitol riot talking about war, civil war, they have

i think renato is correct, though. appears as though the public integrity section -- that's a group inside main justice in washington that's often involved when political figures are under investigation, and it was clear that they were looking at some sort of false statements on campaign finance admissions. that's likely the four of these charges here. but because this involves a sitting member of congress, this was absolutely reviewed in top offices at doj before the u.s. attorney in new york and before the public integrity section could have made a final decision they could have sent what's called a urgent report to the deputy attorney general's office, and lisa monaco, if she wasn't in the loop earlier, which i suspect she was, at that point would have reviewed the indictment. a decision would have been made together before this case moved forward. this means these charges have been very well vetted. i wouldn't be surprised if the solicitor general was always in the mix to make sure they were charges that no legal i

. >> and renato, the jury did hear from e. jean carroll and another woman who accused him of sexual assault. trump's lawyers presented no witnesses of their own. what do you make of this strategy? >> well, you can see why, right, jake, after watching some of these clips why they might not want him on the stand. it comes at a very serious risk. the defense you'd expect from a defendant here would be, i would never do this. this is awful. i'm just so outraged and concerned that i am being accused of committing a very serious, violent crime. but instead, i think, not only is he not appearing to testify in person, which means the jury is really never going to have any sort of emotional connection there with him and be able to really assess that, but he's not there during the proceedings and really i think is giving the jury the impression that he's not taking this seriously. so unless they totally disbelieve everything carroll has said and the other witnesses, i think that really trump and his team are putting themselves in a posi

. >> renato, let's talk about that appeal being followed by the ex president. carol is lawyer told nbc that she is quote, really felt more confident about an appeal than she has about this one. she went on to say trump's lawyers have quote, no legitimate arguments for appeal. do you agree? do you share that assessment? >> i think she has the right, i think she should be confident. i think the only issue that might be substantial on appeal is whether or not the testimony of other women who have been assaulted by the former president could be introduced to trial. in other words, one of the most powerful pieces of evidence was other accusers, who came aboard and said that donald trump then assaulted them. basically, it showed a pattern of activity, an ammo of sorts. i think that was powerful evidence. but the courts are generally reluctant to admit that evidence. you will recall a similar issue on the criminal context of the bill cosby case. that issue comes to mind, generally speaking, i think robbie kaplan is very correct to be confident about how this will all
