>> joining us now from washington, pennsylvania governor and former democratic party chairman ed rendell. governor, good morning to you. >> good morning, maggie. >> your party has this opportunity to have the president of the united states come to your state to try to convince the voters to go democratic in three weeks and he spends a good chunk of the time accusing the republicans of trying to steal the election with money from foreign companies. don't you think, governor, voters would rather hear how democrats are going to create jobs and grow the economy? >> well, sure. but, the president does that pretty much every day, in fact the reason i'm in washington, maggie, we're having a press conference about the president's plan on infrastructure, which i think is the single-best job creator we can do right now. >> but, why did he spend so much time talking about the republicans trying to steal the election, offering no evidence of that? isn't it a bit undignified for the president to resort to that? >> well, the president's got dual roles, commander in chief and sets policy like the infra

the rendell machine is not going no philadelphia.ts to drive down toomey numbers. >> bret: the republican governor candidate is ding well. that's closing as well. white house thinks they can build a firewall in pennsylvania? >> yeah. they're doing that. i think pennsylvania is important state in general. rich is talking about the dynamics there, something i think that the white house is talking about the fact that they are completely dependent on philadelphia. when you start going out to the outside of the, where you have a lot of the hillary clinton voters, they're not loving democrats right now. >> bret: interesting stop is connecticut. that race if you talk to democrats they feel confident richard blumenthal will win. he is up 10.2 over linda mcmahon. what about this stop and why you the white house, the president is making it? >> i'm fascinating by this. there is a governor's race in connecticut i believe is a little closer. there are a couple of close house seats including the fourth district including bridge port where the pres

now, governor ed rendell of pennsylvania is echoing that to a certain extent by saying even if you don't like the canndidat and you're a democrat, you should go out and vote for them no matter what. >> our job in the next two weeks is to tell our liberal friends this is a choice and the other choice is starkly bad for america and for the things that you believe in. there's an old political adage. all we have to do is get them to the polls. a tepid vote casts the same as a wildly excited vote. >> if you love the status quo, go, get those people out. they don't have to love the people in power now. vote for them again. >> sally field would say you kind of like me, you don't really like me. vote for me. >> the problem is he's trying to get the support from the liberal side the same way in which the tea party has done it on the opposite side. the problem is there's anger on this side. i don't know if there's the same amount of anger on the liberal side. that's going to get out the vote on the tea party. >> what he's going to try to do is remind people. if they get in power, bad stuff. boogie
