rene marsh outside reagan national airport. rene, what are you seeing?ow much extra security are you seeing tonight? >> erin, police preparing to launch specialize d viper tees, everything from bomb-sniffing dogs to advanced screening technology. although the federal government is saying there is no credible threat at this point, the overseaskslearly stoking increased concerns for the u.s. transportation system overall. we're also seeing at train stations, bus stations, a heightened accepts of police presence of the we're seeing bag checks, random bag checks at train stations. they're looking for explosives there. of course, the focus is soft targets. i'm standing at the entrance of an airport, that is considered a soft target. anywhere where many people gather but they don't have to go through a security checkpoint to access it. very difficult to protect soft targets. the attacks in brussels proves that point of just how difficult it is for law enforcement to guess and assess and make sure nothing like that happens here in the united states. but again,

. >> cnn aviation correspondent renee marsh is live at reagan international airport in washington, d.chat some of these security measures that are implemented today, you will not see, some you will. tell me what you are experiencing there. >> ashleigh, when i pulled up here at reagan international airport, first of all, all of the garages are full. that speaks to that this is a high traffic volume time as far as air travel. a lot of people here throughout the airport. they gave me a chance to see there is that visible presencism saw s.w.a.t. officers walking throughout the terminal. specifically in this area before the security check point. they got their long guns. there are also bomb-sniffing dogs. it's not just here in the nation's capital, the same scenario is playing out in many airports across the nation. specifically major cities, los angeles, new york city, atlanta, miami, they are all taking precautions, stepping up their presence. as you know, tsa isn't involved in security in these areas before you get to the check point. this all falls on the airports and also falls on law

our aviation correspondent rene marsh is joining us right now. americans onboard. almost immediately tsa and other u.s. agencies about egan running passengers' names to determine who was onboard and who may be a threat. tonight, cnn has learned the hijacker was a 58-year-old man with a criminal record that includes fraud, fake identity, theft, and drug charges. this is the man accused of hijacking an egypt air passenger plane, around his waste is what he claimed was a suicide belt. the egyptian hijacker was caught on surveillance camera inside egypt's alexandria airport. he walks through a metal detector and airport security pats him down before he's cleared to board flight 181 to cairo. 45 minutes after takeoff, egyptian nationals takes the 69 people onboard hostage, and warns he's wearing an explosive suicide belt. >> one of the people told us we've been hijacked. but she didn't even say if he was armed or not or who the guy is. >> reporter: the hijacker forces the plane to divert to cypress. >> most flight crews have been trained not to give o
