the reno-tahoe airport in nevada is small. it's one many of your viewers are very familiar with if they've traveled that short distance from san francisco to reno. here's what happened last night. this was a small plane coming in from mammoth lakes, california, with an ill patient on board. and the pilot was trying to get hold of the air traffic controller in the tower. he called something like seven times and couldn't get hold of the air traffic controller. he was able to land the plane safely, but, of course, this got the attention of the f.a.a. and they're very upset about it. so is nevada's senior senator, the senate majority leader harry reed who spoke about the incident on the senate floor yesterday. >> this shouldn't happen in nevada. shouldn't happen anywhere in our country. shouldn't happen in any airplane. and it certainly shouldn't happen in an air ambulance. >> reporter: this is the sixth incident this year. it's probably why the f.a.a. is reacting so strongly. an incident here in washington at reagan national, one
