texts of fbi agents, two agents in particular, texts that were of notice to congress, peter stroke and lisa paige, republicansn congress who say the agents in a personal relationship were texting in a way that proves to what republicans say were biased, that there had been a controversy their texts were missing over a five-month span, other texts also missing over a five-month span. the office of inspector general at the justice department has succeeded in using forensics tools to recover the text messages from fbi devices, the justice department says, including texts between mr. stroke and ms. paige sent and received between december 14th of 2016 and may of 2017. so they have all of the texts and as we discussed earlier, these are caught up in a debate with republicans trying to undermine the credibility of the fbi and other investigations, including the special counsel investigation. >> now we'll see what they are. i think as opposed to speculating and having intense suggestions of impropriety based on a lack of something, now there is something and i guess we will know more. i think that there are aspects

what you have here is an intensification for the republicans in congress of the situation where it's like do we publicly express our misgivings or double down and support him? the choice was the vision in front of that podium. all of that republican leadership in the house and the senate as displayed as they may be concerned by the revelations and the president's reaction on twitter saying we have come this far, we need to stick by him and minimize the public fallout. >> it was also remarkable the fact that he tweeted about his mental state while he was at camp david in a time where he was trying to get his party on the same page and come up with an election year agenda and discuss the challenges into the mid-term elections. rather than talking about the shared agenda, he is tweeting that he is a very stable genius, diverting from that news conference where the focus was about his mental stability. for the republicans in congress, they view all of this as noise. a huge distraction for sure, but if they can do what they can to get something else done, maybe they don't get anything else

this year, the republican controlled congress obliged. now, the republicans control the house, the senate and the presidency. it is their responsibility to pass a budget and enact a responsible spending bill that keeps the lights on, government functioning, and america moving forward. they have failed in that basic responsibility. democrats stand ready, willing, and able to work with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle, to reopen government, and to keep the country moving forward. but we need partners who are willing to work with us in a responsible fashion. and it's important to simply note that governing by continuing resolution is irresponsible for our country, irresponsible for our economy, and irresponsible for the military. that's not just the house democratic position. that is the position of donald trump's defense secretary, general mattis, who testified before congress and when asked about operating the world's greatest military by continuing resolution said, and i quote, it just creates unpredictability. it makes us rig

but what is going to be the albatross around the republicans‘ neck is that the party in congress is dividedey issues, and also, where there is agreement among republicans on capitol hill, there isn't necessarily agreement between them and the white house, so it's going to be a piecemeal, issue—by—issue basis. the hope for the republicans is that they can add to the tax reform, success so that going into the midterm elections this coming november, they actually have something to defend and something to tell the voters it's worth supporting them again. so plenty of faultlines. what is the priority, then, in the senate and in the house? what do they want to achieve in 2018? well, number one, bottom line, they want to achieve something, anything, to add to tax reform. i suspect they're going to think that the — if not the easiest, then the least—hardest policy file to make progress on would be infrastructure, because there is the opportunity, perhaps, to pick off some democratic support in both the house and the senate. because a lot of democrats agree that infrastructure is a huge problem that
