and i just don't know that the republican states like new hampshire, with their control republican governor republican journal, assembly georgia as well are really going to go and go with this, this new election schedule. i americans, especially those new hampshire and iowa, are very proud of the fact that they are small states that are normally overlooked by presidential candidates. and really the only time that they actually have an opportunity to play a strong part in the process is the fact that they are the 1st to the 1st caucus and the 1st primary. and part of that being the 1st means that the candidates spend a lot more time there too, because once you really get into the primary season, or you have elections in states, going back to bat, especially if you have a super tuesday, like we've had so many elections where we have a number of states in the south going at lunch. you really can't do that. retail politics, you know, and it's kind of ironic that i talk about east west coast elite from to candice. the douglas brings up one from new jersey one from california. so that's what we're talking a

republican governor, the republican secretary of state and his lieutenants. here's what the january 6th committee found and reported on about mark meadows' visit to georgia. when meadows made a visit on short notice to examine the audit of absentee ballots in cobb county, georgia, he spoke to deputy second of state jordan fuchs. ultimately, meadows connected watson with the president, the president, who claimed that he had won the election and pressed her to say that he had won, just say it. the select committee obtained a copy of their recorded phone call, which is detailed below. the president told watson that he had, quote, won georgia by a lot. you have the most important job in the country right now, he told her, and suggested, when the right answer comes out, you'll be praised. four days later, meadows texted fuchs, in which he asked, is there a way to speed up fulton county signature verification in order to have results before january 6th, if the trump campaign assists financially? fuchs wrote in response that she will answer asap. katy, i'm confronted with the reality that i'm not a lawyer, but this sounds to me like donald trump got on the phone and directed state officials to, quote, find enough votes to make him win a state that he knew he lost, and then meadows offered to pay for it? >> yeah, i mean, you can see echoes in other areas, right? you can see a little bit of echoes and cassidy hutchinson, who had a lawyer who was paid for by supporters of donald trump, and then when she switched her lawyer, she started saying a very different thing to january 6th, also that tone of, we know you're going to do the right thing that we know that people around donald trump have used who were witnesses in potential charges against the former president or investigations into the former president, so, there is -- and that, what you just read out now, is very similar lawyer to what donald trump was saying to raffensperger. i know that i won by a lot, without producing the evidence for it, and then meadows involvement, too. but i think it is, you know, all of this is not -- the human consequences of what these people were doing, and the pressure that we know raffensperger himself was under and fuchs was under, too, but there's the undermining of the system itself. that is the other consequence of this, the individuals who are there to try to protect the system, but what they really worry about is people stop believing about the next election, and the election after that. and i guess that's perhaps, you know, their argument for why they had to have some kind of legal changes if the state, even though there's a dissonance, if there wasn't a problem, why do you have the legal changes? republican presidential nomination. florida republican governor ron desantis is out there this week, holding campaign style rallies in three states, kicking off a national book tour with the release of his memoir next week. do you see this as a soft launch for his presidential campaign? >> it feels that way. what do you do when you're running for president? start to get your organizational fund raising capacity in order, write a book, and announce afterwards. check, check, check. so it does have that feel, and we know he's competitive with the former president in the polls. so it has all the telltale signs of a soft launch. >> i have to say, if you happen to go to truth social, which i did the other day, and go to donald trump's account, it's like every other post, whatever they're called, every other one is attacking desantis. here's just one of them, florida was doing great long before ron desanctis got there. people are fleeing there, not because of governor desanctimonious. he's praising democrat charlie crist, who lost to desantis 40-60. >> first of all, that's probably the worst florida tourism board announcement that you can have. but look, he's obsessed with ron desantis. because he's insecure about desantis taking his nomination away from him. so he's acting like a petulant child. >> i mean, his strategy has been to not engage and just take it to democrats, take it to the media, take it to teachers, et cetera, et cetera. but he has not criticized donald trump. >> and what's interesting is that he can afford not to right now, and he isn't being pounded out of the public arena. i do think the fact that these are truths, not tweets, makes a big difference. if donald trump were still on twitter -- >> he's been allowed back. >> but he's not using that platform. the effect of that platform was far more, frankly efficacious for him, needing you to go to a site to tell people what he said. to some level, that's contained donald trump's radius of damage. >> is it also possible that it's just an old act? >> yeah, it's getting old. he can feel himself losing the audience, people looking to ron desantis. the question is whether desantis' silence is a matter of strength or part of a larger pattern we see from other would-be republicansy dance around donald trump for fear of offending. it's that fear of the base and trump that leads them to excusing the inexcusable. until the republican party finds its spine, they'll remain in trouble. they have to call it out directly. >> the face-off will happen eventually. they will be on the same page, donald trump can say all these things to his face, and the crowd will respond. so it's a virtual crowd right now. the truth people are for trump. the other people are for desantis. we're not going to be able to see it -- >> we just can't say truth people. that just doesn't work at all. >> and then we'll see whether ron desantis has a glass jaw. >> "the washington post" writes, they say people close to trump said he wants to make desantis think about it, whether he wants to get into the race. trump advisers say he wants to make it painful for desantis to enter the race. none of this is painful, i have to say. ron desanctimonious is not as good as lying ted cruz or whatever. >> the f

[applause] let's begin with storm clouds loom darkest right here in washington d.c.. this, week i will send you our detailed proposals. tonight, let us speak of our responsibility to redefine governments rolls, not to control, not to demand, but command, not to contain us, but to help in times of need and to create a ladder of opportunity to full employment so all americans can climb toward economic power and justice on their own. we cannot raise the race to future cycle to a system that can pass a federal budget. it can't be held back by horse and buggy programs that squander human potential. we cannot win that race if we are swamped in a sea of red ink. mister speaker, you know and i know in the american people know the federal budget system is broken. it doesn't work. before we leave the city, lets you and i work together to fix it. [applause] then we can finally give the american people a balanced budget. [applause] members of congress and passage of grand ramen columns causes are a stark opportunity to achieve what is eluded on national leadership for decades forcing the federal government to live within its means. your schedule now acquires that the budget resolution be passed by april 15th. the very day americans families have to foot the bill for the budgets that are produced. how often we read of a husband and wife both working struggling from paycheck to paycheck to raise a family, meet up mortgage, pay their taxes and bills. yet some in congress say taxes must be raised. i'm sorry, they're asking the wrong people to tighten their debts. [applause] it's time we reduce the federal budget and left the family budget alone. [applause] we do not face large deficits because american families are under taxed. we face the deficits because the federal government overspends. the detailed budget that we will submit will meet the grand rodman holings target for deficit reductions, meet our commitment for a strong national defense, and meet our commitment to protect social security and the truly less fortunate and meet our commitment to not raise taxes. how should we accomplish this? not by taking by those in the. as families take care of their own, governments provide shelter and nourishment for those who cannot provide for themselves. we must revise our replace programs in the name of compassion that degrade the moral worth of work and encourage family break ups and drive communities into a heartless dependency grad meant lemon holings can mark a dramatic improvement. experience shows that simply setting deficit targets does not assure they will be met. we must proceed with grace commission reforms against waste. tonight, i ask you what 43 governors have already have, give me a line item veto this year. [applause] give me authority to veto waste and i'll take the responsibility. i'll make the cuts. i will take the heat. this authority would not give me any monopoly power. simply prevent spending measures from sneaking through that could not pass on their own merit. you can sustain or override my veto. that's the way the system should work. once we made the hard choices, we should lock in our gains with a balanced budget amendment to the constitution. [applause] i mentioned that we will meet our commitment to national defense. we must meet it. defense is just not another budget expands. keeping america strong, free and at peace is solely the responsibility of the federal government. it is governments prime responsibility. we have devoted five years trying to get a dangerous gap borne of delusion and we made important gains. the threat from soviet forces, conventional and strategic, from the soviet drive for domination, from the increase in espionage and state terror remains great. this is reality. closing our eyes will not make reality disappear. we pledged together to hold real growth in defense spending to the bare minimum. my budget honors that pledge. i'm not asking you, congress, to keep its end of the bargain. soviets must know that america reduces her defenses, it will be because of the reduced threat not a reduced resolve. keeping america strong is as vital to the national security as controlling federal spending is to economic security. as i said before, the most powerful focused we can and lest against the federal despot is an ever expanding american economy unfettered and free. the magic of opportunity, and reserved, on failing, an restraint and isn't this the calling that unites us? i believe our tax rate cuts for the people have done more to spur spirit of us taking help america's economy break free than any program since john kennedy's tax cut almost a quarter second century ago. now history calls us to press on the to complete efforts for historic tax reform and provide opportunities for all and ensuring that all pay their fair share. no more, we've come this far. will you join me now, we will lock them all together. you know my views on this. we cannot and will not accept tax reform that is a tax increase in disguise. to reform as an engine of productivity and growth. that means a top personal rate no higher than 35%. to reform a speech really fire. that means raising personal extensions to $2,000. to reform means attack system that at long last's pro family, pro jobs, pro future, pro america. we knocked down the barriers to growth, we must double our interest for three years and fairer train. we have taken actions to counter unfair trading practices to pry open closed foreign markets. we will continue to do. so we will also opposed legislation touted as providing protection and that in reality puts one american worker against another, one industry against another and one community against another. it raises prices for us all. if the united states could trade with other nations on a level playing field, we can outproduce and outcompete and outsell anybody anywhere in the world. the constant expansion of our economy and experts requires a sound unstable dollar and reliable exchange rates around the world. we must never again permit wild currency swings to cripple our farmers and other exporters. farmers in particular have suffered from past unwise government policies. they must not be abandoned with problems they did not create and cannot control. we begum can order neighing monetary policy among our major trading partners. there is more to do. tonight i'm directing treasury secretary jim baker to determine if the nations of the world should convene to discuss the role and relationship of our currencies. confident in our future, secure and our values, americans are striving forward to embrace the future. we see it not only in our recovery but in three straight years of falling crime rates. families and communities band to get there to fight pornography, drugs, and lawlessness and to get back to their children the safe and innocent childhood they deserve. we see it in the renaissance in education. the rising s.a.t. scores for three years. last year's increase the greatest and 1963. it wasn't government in washington that turned education around. it was the american people who in reaching for excellence new to reach back to basics. we must continue the advance by supporting those guns and our schools, vouchers that give parents freedom of choice, we must get back to our children there lost right to acknowledge god in their classrooms. we are a nation of idealists, today there is a wound in our national conscience. america will never be hole as long as the right to life granted by our creator is denied the unborn, for the rest of my time i shall do what i can to see that this was wound is one day healed. no it's not and we did a group we were in town this week with the republican governors across the country and this team of our republican have additional tax cuts on their agenda this year. as i've indicateded that never s going to continue to grow and difficult to continue to be competitive then we have to be aggressive. but again c that means growing revenue, looking at other issues that will help bring business and industry to the state of iowa. but in keeping spending in check and that's key. the budget idg just proposed to the legislature this year only spans i think it's like 82% of what my projected revenue is. those are the things you have to do. >> i was looking at and out the other day. you, i'll has got six neighbors. once i just got south dakota, i know income taxme state, very competitive. if you look at the data they have strong in migration. on the other side u of illinois probably the worst physically wednesday in the nation. the difference between iowa and illinois in terms of basic physical matrix is kind of amazing. iowa has got aaa bond ratings, low debt, low pension, low unfunded pension. illinois h

is one of the co chairs of that party is christine todd whitman, who was the republican governor of new jersey, the republicand of the epa for george w. bush she's now left that party to help forward expand. they're really targeting california. they were here in california for a series of meetings there, working with this group called the common sense party to try to expand that. here's some of that. at this big senate race now, right? katie porter, adam schiff, barbara lee. all in it. is there going to be a forward party candidate in that senate race? we're looking to get party recognition by the end of this year, which would allow the forward party to potentially back candidates in the 24 race. our goal is to get 90 to 100,000 party registrants here in the in california by october. we're already at 30,000 or so. so we think we're going to get there and then there could be a forward party canada. date at any race at any level here in the state over 500,000 across the country. elections opportunities and fully 70% of those are uncontested. so what we want to say is everybody should have a choice, so we're rea

republican. he was from bakersfield, california, republican governor california and came on the and wrote the brown decision. that was for civil rights. justice brennan, many people like me who are more liberal have always considered him one of the greatest justices. he was a republican and president kennedy appointed the football star. he was very conservative and some liberals didn't like that and he was one of the two that voted no on roe v. wade. we used to say it looks like these guys get on the court and they decide they have to act like judges. the problem is, that has changed and that has changed and now we have people on the court who clearly are showing they have a political agenda. it's so unfortunately predictable what they will do. that was demonstrated in the dobbs case, the abortion case where they throughout 50 years of president. there was aperiod where president could appoint more people but in my lifetime, there has never been a democrat appointed and confirmed as chief justice. i'm about to turn 70 years old. not once. when we have a court where it's perceived that there is a party by us going on in the court, is not easy to believe it will be returned to a situation where people can be comfortable. our goal is not to turn it into a liberal court.

governor ron desantis presidential ambitions are less clear right now. he has emerged as trump's most formidable foe thanks to skyrocketing popularity among republican voters. other republicans rumored to be considering a run, they include former maryland governor larry hogan, trump's former secretary mike pompeo. new jersey governor chris sununu. with a republican afield already getting crowded, the key question is, will 2024 be a repeat of the 2016 election. could we end up with trump as a republican nominee again because of the splintered field? joining me now is hayes brown, who is a columnist and editor of msnbc daily. also with us is michelle goldberg, she pulitzer prize-winning columnist for the new york times and msnbc political analyst. let's start with you. let's start of this course about trump in 2016. huge field of republicans splintering the field. he marched through it. could this be a repeat of too many people getting in 2024? >> i think that if i'm donald trump, the more people who are in, it the better. because so long as he holds the plurality of the voters. if he can just keep repeating 2016. i hesitate to call it a strategy but the way he won in 2016 by

republican party in general, and disqualifies himself by these actions from being considered a republican. here now with me to respond's former governor mark roscoe governor great to see you. are you surprised that you have been ex communicated from the state republican>> well, i don't know if i'm surprised. maybe a little bit sad that things have come to this point. in times in the past, i was often, or not often, but now and again, i tended to try to focus on the issues as they were to, as a matter of principle, the values that i had when i was in office a try to do the right things as you're supposed to do. and make certain that i was loyal to us first to my country and then to my state. then to my party. and if those things all happily coincided, that was wonderful. but there were occasions where it did not. and i felt like i had to follow what i perceived to be the right thing to do as a matter of principle. so, i didn't expect it, but i'm not surprised. >> doing the right thing, according to your principles, that will never work, governor. what were you thinking? >> i'm sorry i couldn't hear your question, is a little garbled. >> there wasn't a question, i'm just so astonished to talk to you, so it feels i guess not in vogue right now to stand
