we heard from some senate republicans who, again, disagreed with how the biden administrationdled things but did hear from senator mitt romney a republican from utah and broke with the rest of his party saying that he emerged from this more confident that this was really held -- that this was handled carefully and he said skillfully and with care. those were his words so he emerged from this feeling very good about the decisions that have been made admitting it probably wasn't perfect but most things in life aren't perfect but felt great about it. we heard from senator chris murphy, a democrat from connecticut. he was very pleased with how this went down. we also talked to senator jon tester who is from montana. of course, he's up for re-election in 2024 and montana played a big role in all this. he went into the briefing saying that he really felt like the administration needed to justify its actions and he did want to hear more so people have a lot of questions that they want answered and to that end there have also been a handful of briefings or a handful of hearings, rathe

senate. that's changed. to be clear most republicans have been supportive of the effort particularly those in the senate, but there are some loud and growing voices among house republicans, the freedom caucus and others who say, hey, we can't be a blank check to ukraine. preview for us the looming funding fight ahead. when will this take place and what shape will it look like? and kevin mccarthy pointed to some hard line conservative members to this committee who are suspicious of aid to ukraine, someone like congressman massie, a kentucky republican who pointed out just this week instead of having bigger funding packages, he wants that funding separated out into smaller packages focused just on ukraine aid. and that can be difficult to move. i think we're going to see a lot of resistance. as you know a small majority through the house of representatives, only a five seat majority for republicans these bills might not even make it onto the house floor as these very conservative members on the house rules committee blocked them. >> appreciate you starting your day with us and bringing us your analysis, thank

during the first month of 2017, the senate voted 35 times and 2015, it voted 46 times. is the the republicans force to stop them, too, or are democrats getting it through their own dysfunction? >> it depends on who you talk to on this one. the senate came in and swore in its members on january 3rd and took several weeks off. democrats say there were a bigger problem on the republican side to get their members onto certain committees and we have reporting that suggests eric schmidt, the new republican senator from missouri was trying to kick one of his committee members off and that was part of the hold up. the senate doesn't have a lot to do this month. the senate typically tends to move more slowly than the house, and of course, you need 60 votes to get most things done. i will say, one of the most important things that's going to happen this congress, and this will be a significant thing, is the democratic controlled senate is going to approve a lot of president biden's judicial nominations. they have already started that process. a batch of 39 judges has moved through the committee. democr

senator scott in 2024? >> you know, i do. there is a craving among republicans someone who's kind of the happy warrior, like he is. he has one of the most unique stories and backgrounds of a republican. i think he carves his own lane, and it's not necessarily a lane that other candidates could have. someone like scott with his background, his story, the first black man as a republican, he represented the area of south carolina where the first shots of the civil war were fired. he's got a story to tell. can he get enough of a lane and enough of a constituency to rival desantis and trump? that's going to be hard. >> well, and karen, also, i will just say he's holding an event thursday in south carolina to mark black history month. >> right. >> he has an african american senator. he's from south carolina. he talks about this. he has worked on police reform. you got him. then you've got desantis going against the a.p. on a black studies class. can scott walk and chew gum at the same time on this in the gop? >> well, he absolutely can. i think the question is -- and
